First thing's first, Husky owner Mettoy made a bit of a hash with this models name as it is distinctly representative of a Ferrari 250 LM rather than that the labelled 'Ferrari Berlinetta 250 GT' on its base. It was produced between 1967 and 1969 and was a scaled down (yet improved in some respects) version of Corgi's 250 Le Mans. It is a simple casting displaying early moves by Mettoy to use cast bases instead of their earlier plastic ones. It had no trim detail but has a really great looking engine beneath the canopy.
The Ferrari 250 LM was a homologation racer first shown in November 1963. It failed to achieve the numbers required by homologation, forcing it to be run as a prototype until 1966. Ferrari sold the 250 LM to privateer customers, including the North American Racing Team. With drivers Jochen Rindt and Masten Gregory, the team took overall victory at the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans. Until 2023, it was the last Ferrari overall victory at the spectacle event.
My casting had been well played with showing signs of paint loss across the entire car. Someone had also adorned it with some custom number 12 stickers. While these were easy to remove from the paintwork, one was a complete pain that had been stuck to the engine cover. The residue left a cloudy mark that no amount of polishing could get rid of. That aside, my first Husky casting was a pleasure to work on.
