Like why a loud restaurant makes me irritated and not wanting to talk anymore for example. The productivity things I deal with and pickiness with food are both things my mom deals with so she at least understands those things but a lot of the things I deal with it would be so much easier to explain if I could explain how it relates to autism but instead I’m just like “yeah idk why I’m like this so weird lol”

@@ellabiddy4741 dude i relate to everything you said so hard. it took me around the same amount of time of researching to confidently self-diagnose, and although there are definitely still some folks who don't see self diagnosis as valid, id say a vast like 75-90% of the autistic community see's self diagnosis as equally valid to professional diagnosis, especially bc a lot of us have faced ableism ourselves from medical "professionals" just because our autistic traits aren't the exact same as their one distant family member with autism. tbh it took me until hearing a bunch of credible sources (autistic folks and reputable org's) talk about how they saw self-diagnosis as valid to take the step because as a high-masking autistic female the imposter syndrome can be so real. sorry for the novel aha, i just really relate and hope i can maybe help you to feel a bit more accepted by the autistic community. if you wanna chat more about autism stuff feel free to message me on instagram, @goldenoveralls

Hey if its any reassurance, I am a fast drug metabolizer as well and have done a LOT of research on anesthetics during surgery for the same reason! I'm a trans man doing a full binary transition, so surgery has been a big part of my life the last couple years. I found out that the anesthesiologist monitors you for signs of distress (like increased heart rate, etc.) during surgery and if they notice any sign of anything out of the ordinary they'll give you more drugs. Your anesthesiologist would more than likely know you were starting to experience distress before you even knew. Of course, anesthesia awareness can sometimes happen, but your fast metabolism doesn't make it any more likely. There's an anesthesologist named Max Feinstein with a youtube channel by the same name, learning about anesthesia on his channel really helped my surgery anxiety. Now I can just look forward to my gender-affirming surgeries instead of being scared of them.

The only thing I’ve figured out with my fatigue is that it is almost guaranteed to happen when I have a stressful conversation, have a panic attack, or do anything that is clearly stressing me out. But fighting that fatigue and controlling it feels impossible. The guilt is so real. I run a small business and it has definitely been impacted by the fatigue as well as my part time job. All of the physical feelings Jarvis is describing sound exactly like how my ADHD fueled c-ptsd anxiety manifests. My therapist and I are working on dealing with my body physically feeling like it's dying when it's actually just an adrenal response from panic. Turns out you don't even need a mental stress trigger if it's been an issue for long enough. 🙃 I also thought I had diabetes at first; I even get the tingling limbs.

jarvis' discussion on fatigue is so familar to other people with chronic fatigue and pain, spoon theory helps explain a lot of fatigue. I can't go to a full day of school and then clean my room the same day, each of those by itself takes all of my spoons, and I i won't get any more spoons until 2 days after, when I've recovered. having constant pain means I need to weigh all of the chores and things I "need" to do, like see friends, go to school, clean my room, take out trash, wash my face, do laundry, I have to sacrifice the "less important" normal human activities for the "more important" ones.

@@mayas883 the game stamina is exactly how I explained how easily fatigued I am before I found the spoon theory!! it helps it click for neurotypical or able-bodied people, it's always so hard to just say "I'm tired and it feels like my bones literally can't move"😭

Jarvis, I hope I’m not overstepping, but consider asking your doctor about seeing a sleep specialist. I too had so much blood work, I went to every specialist and did every test. I finally went to a sleep doctor, and I have narcolepsy. It’s so different from how it’s portrayed in media. It can truly feel like your body and brain just aren’t working. It’s rare so maybe it’s not that, but I think talking to a sleep specialist may still be worth it!

Saw your comment under someone else's and looked for this to second it! Jarvis's comment about a weird intense dream especially made me wonder since they do tend to occur more after developing narcolepsy. And how narcolepsy is often comorbid with ADHD and ADHD meds can mask some symptoms since many are used to treat both. Even if it's not it, a sleep study could rule out N or sleep apnea. Like sure it could be a reach but I correctly guessed I developed narcolepsy in my 20s because I learned about it from a fanfic I read in middle school, wouldn't be so weird for someone to discover they have it because their youtube viewers suggested it lol. Hope he figures out whatever it is though, and for his sake that it's something easier to treat or maybe cure. Being tired constantly sucks no matter what the cause is.

Being a person diagnosed with Mental Health issues AND Narcolepsy, i totally feel this. Especially the being tired all the time and overwhelmed by the things I need to do. And those dizzy spells that make me feel like I have low blood sugar. Edit: the more I hear the more I think a sleep specialist might be something to look into. But hey, I'm not a doctor. Hope these Sad Boyz start feeling better soon

Ugh the dentist thing... my family didn't tell me we had a history of resistance to anaesthetics so when I could feel extreme pain while my teeth were being pulled (dentists were even like "wow it's really deep rooted" so it took awhile) I just assumed that was what was supposed to happen and sat there trying my hardest not to scream in addition to all the crying lol. They took 4 of my bicuspids.

Hearing Jordan and Jarvis describe the Spoons Model without knowing that that's what it is is really funny to me for anyone that doesn't know, it's the concept that you get a certain number of spoons in a day and that each task takes some of those spoons. Different tasks take different amounts for different people. When you're out of spoons, that's like your "action points" being spent for the day. (and no there's no reason that it uses spoons, it's just funnier that way)

In the Marine Corps, they teach you that your body starts telling you to stop at like 70-80% of your potential so that you don't harm yourself, but that means you have potentially like 30% more to give if you just push past the warning signs and accept the consequences.

This is my first sad boyz podcast and what Jordan said at 2:20 hit home hard. My life is improving vastly but the chemicals in my brain continue to malfunction. It feels like no matter how great life gets, there’s a massive weight on my shoulders when i try to enjoy things. I’ve been trying to reframe that feeling though, I try to view the undue emotional pain as weight added to an exercise. Life will never be perfect, but if i can someday lose the emotional weight I’ll be So much stronger.

Not to assume anything about Jarvis's health, but listening to him talk about his normal blood work, sounded a lot lot my own experience in getting diagnosed with fibromyalgia. All of my bloodwork, MRIs, and X-rays have come back normal. I have chronic pain, fatigue, and brain fog. I also get the really awful blood sugar feeling. I've tested my blood sugar when I feel like that, and it is still technically in a normal range for non-diabetics. Speaking of diabetes, if anyone thinks they have diabetes, the four symptoms are increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss. Doesn't matter how old you are. My husband was 24 when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Knowing these symptoms saved my husband from ever experiencing diabetic ketoacidosis, which is life threatening!

all four of my wisdom teeth were severely impacted. i went in to get them taken out, informed the dentist i was allergic to the main anaesthetic they use. they get me in the chair, put me under, and i wake up in about 5 minutes fully conscious, having a full body allergic reaction struggling to breathe. i hear them talking about “oh are they allergic to this?” “i think they said something about that yeah” “then get them off of it” . they then put me on fentanyl, which doesn’t do anything, and i’m awake but immobilized for the rest of the procedure (about 45 minutes). when they took me to the room with my mom in it they told her the fentanyl would be making me delirious and not to trust anything i said (after i said i was awake the whole time and felt them drilling out my wisdom teeth). i have a super high resistance for all substances (just naturally, im a 19 year old who has never rlly drank or touched drugs, and don’t take pain meds as a personal choice), so i get its hard to get things right but i let them know all this stuff ahead of time and it still sucked lol.

When my son was 5, he started school and was shortly diagnosed with ADHD. When they gave me the initial paperwork, I realized I had it too. . . At 38 years old. For all my young ones in these comments, especially females, consider yourself very lucky to have a diagnosis so young. Until about 10-15 years ago, the psychiatric world ASSUMED that females like myself could not have ADHD since we rarely show physical hyperactivity. My mind is going 250mph, but that's from "depression". I'm now 45 and can't even try any meds cuz I now have high BP. Oh and this drug shortage has been crazy. At least school is out for summer so I'm not nearly as worried about it. My son went two weeks with nothing and his teachers were. . . Troopers.

I also just went two weeks without my Vyvanse. I had a cold that's resulted in lingering fatigue, and come to think of it, I haven't taken my B12 or zinc (I'm so deficient that I have a dose you can't buy over the counter) in a couple weeks. It's been awful, but this makes me feel so much better hearing that it's not just me. I've been waking up at 9am at the earliest.
