Nice job Steven! I did a complete new install this past Saturday with one of my guys at his mother's house. Installed a 2-1/2 ton Goodman condensing unit and air handler, including all the duct work. Being an "inside hospital HVAC tech" it makes me really appreciate how hard you service guys work out in the field!!!

I saw you using the Hilmor tubing expander. It looks just like the Yellow Jacket principle with the six wedges and a pin insert. I have the Yellow jacket one and it splits soft tubing regularly. If I can't afford to redo the joint, I use the flaring block and the Imperial Eastman Swedge press.

Steve, the one thing I have noticed about your brazing of the line set connections, you have both sides of your gauges hooked up? Just does not allow the heat to escape the service valve and can cause damage, especially because you probably haven't removed the cores and the o-rings could melt. Also, why no low pressure nitrogen during the brazing process??
@stevenlavimoniere
8 жыл бұрын
+Wes Gander go back and watch again ,,,i have nitrogen running during the brazing . i have the hose on because i have wet rags wrapped around valve for brazing, the water would get in if i had the ports open .think about it.
@pure_strafez
2 жыл бұрын
Then only put a rag on one side ride around the port and have that one closed if you can’t wrap it only around the bottom port but should have it anyway and open the other port cuz as @gander said you still have to worry about the service valve and o-rings no? Didn’t see any service valves opened or closed either…? Just curious cuz still trying to learn and I honestly don’t see many specifics or detailed matters on how, just more so a basic process of you doing an install to me

can you help I have a 3.5 ton ac unit the ac compressor went into thermal overload we cooled it off got it to restart and the black wire is pulling 12 amps red wire is pulling 12 amps and wire to the capacitor is pulling 6 amps the compressor is rated at 22 amps also the the main amp draw for unit is 15 on the black wire and 14 on white the system is rated at 24 amps. just wanna figure out how to tell if its over amping also when the unit does run it cools fine vents have a 20 degree drop its the main floor unit condenser fan is running it has mad a loud noise almost sounds like a recip compressor when it does the noise at start up usually last for 10-15 min and quits down all the time the unit will still cool but wont always make sound it has been doing it for about 3 years we had the system checked sevral times and was assured its working correctly.
@stevenlavimoniere
9 жыл бұрын
SuperJeremi10 if your compressor went out on thermo overload that s because your charge is low .. the compressor is refregrant cooled so if your low on gas it will not cool off . and trip open to save compressor . whats your superheat and suction pressure with running ,and suction line temp ??
@SuperJeremi10
9 жыл бұрын
that is unknown when the unit runs it has a 15-20 degree drop inside on the vents I need to get a set of gauges to check its been doing this on and off for 3 years the suction line gets should I say it beer can cold and the liquid gets warm to the touch and the compressor is sweating around the suction line port inlet it has a Copland scroll I just had it checked again by a service company at the start of cooling season and they said it was running fine ive had 3 company's look at it its still shutting off on overload every now and then but even during 100degree days it maintains temp within 1 degree the run cap is starting to bulge though its a 7 year old cap the air handler is set to high speed for cool and filter is clean the condenser could use cleaning though it hasn't been touched in 7 years but we do year pm on the units have the caps checked fan and compressor and charges checked I will call and see if any body I know has a set of gauges could there be none combustibles in the system this unit was a hack install we had another company fix it so we thought.

True, R410a's are supposed to be run with a TXV, but a piston works too, just not as well. TXVs fail shut, a piston can flood a compressor if the charge is off and run on a cold day... I have had pistons fail with blockages from leak lock and broken up driers, found rubber in one once, like part of a schraeder cap seal.

My opinion, not the best soldering. You use too much heat, you should not use a rag to cool a joint. Rapid cooling can cause contraction fractures in the solder. That suction line was not centered and used too much solder on the lower part of the joint to seal it.
