The fun part about a company being on the US sanctions list is that you can't use Paypal to sell or resell their products anymore either. A few years ago I bought a plastic model made by a South Korean company called DML which stands for Dragon Models Limited from a guy on Facebook for $30. Well Paypal suspended the transaction and my account because there was an Iranian company that also has the initials DML which stands for Digital Media Lab that is on the sanctions list. Took over a week to get that mess straightened out. FWIW they, and Facebook as well, often seem to think that we are also selling the actual weapons systems, not plastic models of them and block things for this reason as well. Because an f-16 clearly costs just $45 on the black market.

As a plastic modeller myself, this made me laugh... :D especially given I have kits like B-2, F-22, F-35 or from other side Tu-160 including it's nuclear payload (and also some British nukes that came with V-bombers). Virtually all of the common complaints about the Twin Cam motor are resolved by simply letting the motor breathe properly, with a normal fuel-air mix, instead of the stock lean burn and using synthetic oil. Since the EPA was complicit in letting Harley fake it for so long, I'm gonna tune my Harley to run the way it wants to run, not the way the EPA mandated they run. In the name of preventing E-waste and perfectly healthy & new products from being destroyed, I think the US should allow the remaining Deepcool inventory to at least be donated, auctioned, or sold at a discount to consumers who might want them; the money doesn't even have to go back to Deepcool. Straight up destroying the inventory doesn't sound right in any capacity and I hope someone speaks out about that.

I'm 100% with you, but unfortunately I don't think it's gonna go this way. It's often the case with a politically charged case like this that a clear cut and simple-to-execute solution be employed. And I'm gonna go ahead and assume it's not even the government pressuring them to destroy the inventory, it's more likely the company taking a preemptive measure as to avoid any potential future liability. Unless the sanction order comes with an appendix clause relieving local distributors from that liability, which has an approximately zero percent chance of happening, these companies just won't take the risk. It's a shame all around really, but I guess we couldn't really blame them for not wanting to take that risk.

It's very complex to explain properly, and I cannot do the best job, but when you do something seemingly as innocent as doing business with a company in a nation that has a wartime economy you can actually be supporting the war effort in a way that is nearly equivalent to direct support since even if you do not supply war materiel you are supporting their economy, which lets them focus more on war materiel. Economies of nations like Russia in times of war become very insidious very quickly where more or less *any* business with Russian citizens is fairly likely to help the country's war effort on some level. Even humanitarian aid and medical supplies help their war effort in a real and measurable way. It's one of the reasons war sucks so much and is a tragedy.

I know Steve isn't a fan of the U.S government being a peaceful Canadian, but the U.S is probably correct here. Well, as far as Deepcool goes. Russia is probably buying from them using a middleman or a network/infrastructure of middlemen (not Russia directly, companies within Russia and around, including in allies like Belarus, etc). Deepcool probably thought it was fine - nope. I'm sure the U.S warned them ahead of time, "Stop selling to these known Russian assets or we're sanctioning you too." and they failed to comply. All you need to do is look at who the U.S is singling out for violating their sanctions; every single one of those companies are clear and obvious offenders. I know a lot of younger people will claim "Well maybe they didn't know?" sorry, that's not an excuse in the land of adults and grownups.

It will only work if the lawsuit does anything. People forget the FTC hasn't acctually accomplished anything yet. The only move that worked was suing against the nVidia/Arm merger and that was because nVidia just backed off. If they pursued it they would have likely won. The FTC sued Microsoft to block the merger and lost in a landslide because the current over de-regulated laws allow most mergers and bad actors. I hope I am wrong, just being realistic. This doesn't mean anything unless they win. Same with the Apple lawsuit.

@@GSBarlev The investors give no fucks where were you when Microsoft got sued, or any other company. They only care about the bottom line and profits which are showing no signs of slowing down because no one plans to stop using it. Just a lot of people talking about Adobe right now which is good for them. People are quick to forget once the headlines stop. Think I am wrong, check the stock price. They reported a quarterly profit that fell slightly, as costs rose 8 percent. Yet the stock price is only down about 45 cents per share from a year earlier. Yeah they are shaking in their boots. People just say things I think to make themselves feel better. Yeah they should take a hit, but probably won't because people will keep using or pirating their software. Adobe executives don't care if most everyday joes pirate. You are not the market for them. people should boycott, but most people think the most expensive is the best in ignorance. Hence why KZitem in 2009-2012 looked like a pile of shit for most creators even LTT and others, regardless of what they used. It is less about the program and more about optimizing for KZitem or whatever platform engine. But people cannot help using abusing programs even when they gain little benefit from them.

@@LordWaterBottle I agree, but since companies often don't, I just don't use trials unless I know for certain I do want to extend it to a paid subscription, and that would only be for things like gym memberships, not for software that is on my computer. What's on my computer is mine. What's in the gym is theirs. It's a principle thing. I'm not going to rent f'ing software. I encourage anyone and everyone to pirate subscription based software. Also, just as a couple rhetorical questions: off the top of your head, where do you have running subscriptions, what are the products you get, which do you use and which don't you use? I'm just saying, it seems to be the norm to not sell people things anymore but to have them pay for subscriptions instead, and it's not exactly helping people budget their finances or even have any clue anymore about what they're paying for and how often. That's fine if you enjoy the convenience of wasting money when you don't use something and you have plenty of disposable income, but a lot of people don't have that luxury, and they also don't have the option anymore to just save up some money to buy a piece of software for occasional use. So again, pirate subscription based software. Customers have to eat also, and the CEO can get around in a slightly smaller car just fine.

@@stylis666 OK, my phrasing could have been better. I mean that gyms are just as bad as Adobe when it comes to canceling the recurring payment. The only recurring payments I have are KZitem Premium (because I am on this website enough to pay for hosting, and also it guarantees monetized channels I watch actually get paid their penny), Rebble watch software for Pebble Smartwatch, and insurance. There are various things where I will abuse subscription pricing, then go and cancel the subscription once the payment is through at subscription pricing. I may keep any of them as actual subscriptions, but I just don't go through any of them fast enough.
