It needs vernalization... If this requirement is not met, it will just be a green bush. If you live in a hot region, it's better to invest in zonale, peltatum and their intergeneric hybrids.

I'm very interested in hybridizing for certain traits i.e., leaf and flower colour. I'd also like a more detailed video on trimming geraniums, how to identify a growth point vs. a flower. I'm a beginner (in Canada) and haven't been able to find any resources in my area.

Okay will do, I’ve been busy with the UK with the show season work and will catch up with some more videos over the next weeks or so.

What is the difference between hybridizing a specie pelargoniums and cultivator pelargoniums.

Hi. The seeds from species will come true to the original as they are the first of its type with no genetic mixture involved in the species creation. Cultivars are made up of centuries of breeding using mixtures of similar plant type groups. When using these to breed you can get an idea of what you will get but you can also pull through characteristics from plants used in their breeding throughout the history of the entire breeding cycle.

Thank you David! Great video... do you think that it's possible to sow exactly in the same way the winter-growing wild species? Does it change anything in terms of season, temperature etc.? I have some P. carnosum seeds and I'd like to try...

Hi Andrea. I have to confess I’m not a species expert but the processes will be the same. Regals grow strongly in the winter but seed still need warmth to germinate so this applies to most Pellies. David
