does anyone know if the chisel tips of these type machines are made of carbide or heat-treated steel or what type of metal ?
@Pottalowski
2 жыл бұрын
They are usually made of carbon-manganese steel or some other alloy that hardens the more you beat on it until it eventually cracks due to internal stresses

Bushes on the front head has excessive wear. Working this much wear should cause breaking of piston or tool maybe both of them

I hear ya' on the lower bushing. And yes that's true with inexperienced or careless operators but after 42 years hammering I work that point to make it all go away. I'm real bad on the lowers and try to replace them with every new point. Typically down to about a foot left. After that you lose the magic. It goes without saying that the bigger hammers require greater finesse because of possible damage. Never broke a point actually but I've seen my share, usually prying too much or getting it stuck too much & pivoting around too much everything while overheated. Trained quite a few folks. They learn lol. I always teach them:"You hammer with your ears and with your butt". Cheers!

Beautiful! Granite? I see you might use water. I use as much water as possible here in Arizona USA when breaking living granite with big hammers. Keeps everything cool & no silica lol Cheers!

Why would you use water , it would transfer the fiction to the water making the chisel inefficient, maybe for drilling

@@wertiaaudit5746 Good question! I've asked myself the same! But realistically the very moment that living granite is exposed to air/weathering it immediately begins to die/decompose. Water speeds up the process by leaching into the crystalline structure and weakening it while also maintaining absolute coolness of the tool point/chisel/bit which of course allows for maximum ft lbs per strike. Try it. The point gets excruciatingly HOT when attacking living granite. *Minimum 3000 lb hammer weight just to crack living granite. Double that & it'll explode the material. But the hot point without steady water or rain will succumb to the granite. Keep it cool and blast away. Cheers!
