In the nail art world, this is called water marbling.

I’m so excited to see you try this. I was doing this long before I ever discovered pouring. I use bowls so you can do rings and patterns. I’ve done it on pretty much every kind of glassware.

You can use glitter polish just drop it in with the brush. Look at different water marbling videos. See my simplelittlepleasures.

I've done this before. Old nail polish doesn't work. It sinks. I liked the nail dip better with white items like cups and plates.

On the ornament it's self what's best to use, plastic or glass? I've tried with plastic but it's not turning out good

Do you need to seal them with a clear coat of some sort once they dry? I'd think the nail polish would scratch off the glass ornament

I did this last year on ornaments I bought at the dollar store. The nail polish looked great on frosted, metallic balls and on glitter covered balls too

I used to have long nails. The designs you can make with the water marbling is so awesome. I think this is a great idea using the Christmas bulbs. What’s really cool is if you let one drip of nail polish go in and then alternate colors dripping inside the circle. Then you can a toothpick and pull from the outside in a make some cool designs. I used to dip my nail in there on an angle and then collect all the rest of the nail polish so when you pull it out it does not come out clumpy. I noticed you did do that on your second one. But the first one was very awesome. I have so much nail polish. I am going to have to give this a try with some of my Christmas balls.❄️TFS

@wendylambert3584

@@purplepanterachick I don't mean hydro dipping them as I don't know if that would work although I will try it. I just dabbed alcohol ink on a blending tool and then dabbed it on the ornament. Mixed media girl has a tutorial on her channel which can show you much better.

@@wendylambert3584 thank you for your response. I'm not sure alcohol inks would work in water.. perhaps just replace the water with alcohol? Sounds crazy right lol. You never know.

I am a nail tech and I've done this on fingernails. I think it works best if the water is room temperature. The nail polish dries so quick with cold and warm water. And you are right, you have to work quick.
@RandeT73

Look up nail art videos for water marbling. Guylene325, Moon baby nails, My simple little pleasures are a few to check out. The water has to be room temp, the same temp as the polish. Some people swear by bottled water others say it doesn't matter as long as the water and the polish are the same temp. Suzie on Nail Career Education did one with ornaments a few yrs ago. Fast drying polishes are also harder to work with. Usually cream polishes also work better, I don't know I've never done it. I bet you could get a ton of ideas from them, even with paints.

I dipped ornaments with spray paint yesterday. Epic fail. I know I did everything right, but it kept coming up stringy and clumpy. I fully submerged, etc. Personally I can't sell something that looks like that. Super bummed

I wonder if it's best to warm up the nail polishes first, by just putting the pots in warm water? Maybe they'd come out easier.

Don't dip your ornaments into the water. Glide it along the polish & pull it up. That helps with the clumping. I use distilled water also. It may help.

@@Papacam797 thank you I have tried doing this on canvas turns out good other than having some weird air bubbles so was wondering if it was because of the temperature of my water. I will have to get some distilled water and try it as I also used water from our well.

In case it matters, the colder it is, the faster nailpolish dries. So doing this in a warmer location or maybe warm water might keep it more liquid longer.
