Thanks Jimmy - btw, i did both kracky method and soil. What I figureded out - pumpkins grow larger in soil and even better in large air pots. Also, keeping only 1 pumpkin per vine made them larger....fewer, but larger. Also, regarding the powdery mildew, using actual powdery mildew spray vs homemade baking soda method was more succesxful in keeping the mildew in check, but i understand either people dont want to buy/use bought sprays. One thing i would also add/suggest, start spraying the homemade spray `before` the mildew actually appears.

...also, for major mildew propblems/humid locations, scrubing each leaf by hand using dry laundry soap mixed with water and a dish scrub pad really helps. When i am staying in thailand, the humidity causes way more powdery mildew and scrubing by hand is a must.

Great tips! I definitely could have been more proactive and diligent with the sprays. Very excited to try a pumpkin plant again next season!

Powdery mildew is a problem where i am at, but never seem to be a problem if i spray early and often- before it appears. When staying at my place in thailand where the humidity is awful- i do start the spraying process if actually powdery mildew spray early and often. I also try and scrub the pkants/leaves once evey 2 weeks with that dish scrub pad and (dry laundry detergent + warm water) ....seems to help a lot.

@Whatnonono

my guess for why the leaves were clearish and more yellow if because the plant doesn't touch soil any further down the vine meaning no more roots can grow on the vine. it might jsut not have been getting the extra bit of neutrients

Oh man! That sucks buddy. Awesome video though! I find that using 48” tower fans are the ticket to keep moisture at bay, and prevent microclimates from taking hold on leaves. The 4 foot tall wall of wind covers the whole plant, compared to a tiny circle from normal fans. Keep up the good work my friend!

Okay i accidentally sprouted a bunch of pumpkin seeds from a pumpkin. The shells have mostly fallen off and they're still only in water. I have land space but can decide if i should plant the roots in soil or come up with a hydroponics system out doors since i have a pretty large patch of dirt. Thoughts or tips

If you're reliant on harvesting a pumpkin, soil is probably the most straightforward.. hydro could be fun/neat but id be careful to check the temperature ranges the reservoir will go through, depending your climate

I've used the same solution for powdery mildew on my Howden pumpkins (grown in raised beds) and it worked phenomenally well. Unfortunately I found out about this solution too late into the season last year and most of the damage had already been done. Looking forward to using the tricks I learned for this year in hopes I'll get some great looking jack-o-lanterns for this year's Halloween.

This is fascinating. I really want to give this a try. Maybe with a Zucchini. I have found clarita is very mildew free. Watering the leaves with yoghurt in the water can help with mildew. It is a huge problem here in UK because of our damper summer climate. Maybe a smaller variety of pumpkin. What are nutrients in the water? The large white patches on the leaves are very common on pumpkins and Zucchini. Clalrita mentioned before have very impressive ones and the plants look beautiful. Have you tried cinnamon powder for mold? What is the material you sowed the seed into? Thank you for your video.

Glad you liked it! I use Grodan rockwool as the medium to sow my seed. And I grew this plant with nutrients from Future Harvest. I’ve also had success in the past using advanced nutrients micro/grow/bloom, but with different types of plants. I’ve seen some of these mildew prevention techniques but haven’t tried them. The mixture I attempted in the video is all I have tried personally. I was hesitant to do too much because I was indoors and didn’t want to make a mess of everything. I’ll give another pumpkin plant a try this summer outside and see what we see. It was a very fun plant to grow
