Loved your review and the final section is so true. My wife works as pallative community nurse and people really need to understand that you never know what is round the corner, live life to the full and enjoy it. She is the one who encouraged me to buy an A Class this year, so read from that what you will.

Hi Andrew, a good and honest review. Thanks for that. Your remarks at the end about life being too short resonate with us. We have been motorhoming for 21 years but in 2000 my wife had a very severe stroke but survived. It took her six months of rehabilitation to get back into the motorhome and the wheels haven't stopped rolling since. We now live in Southern France and have a tag axle Frankia. Apart from the house, it's the best thing we've ever bought and my wife says it's the best hotel she's ever stayed in! If you can afford it, just do it, all the best, Bob, Ann and Lassi the dog

"Do it right, do it once" sage advice indeed. I dived straight into buying an A class albeit a bit shorter at sub 6m last September and on release from lockdown I have enjoyed every minute I have managed to get out and about. The only thing I don't like is the leveling chocks, so next month I am getting the HY4 LEVELING SYSTEM fitted for £6000 May more happy days to come. Hopefully. 👍🖖🏴🏴🏴

Hi Andrew, The first practical and honest review of a motorhome, not a sales person story! Congrats to that, The pressure in the shower is pretty disappointing, meaning the pressure pump should be of a higher quality level such as used by Morelos, Concordes, Niesmann and Bischofs, where this is not an issue The handling of the side window liners during the night is for sure a nightmare, Hymer needs to get this right, I guess this applies for all their motor homes, so a change of deliverer would be advisable When you were talking live during driving I heard lots of bumps which sounded more like an old crappy bus of the past, did you experience this the same? I regards to Lithium batteries and inverters et etc I would highly recommend that when ordering NOT to include in the purchase! The reason is that the package you can click on is not worth the money, there are at least 5 high qualified companies in Germany that can add that for you on a much higher and more qualified level for less money including solar, WiFi routers etc, I would personally never order this from a motor home producer, order it naked and get it done professionally, my personal advise to all that think of buying a new motor home, regardless from whatever company, this is for them the “cream on top of the cake” where they make tons of money and give you the lowest level of technology! Thank you for your kind and efficient review, keep looking after Dougle!

Hi Andrew wow!! I've had to watch that in 3 chunks! I suspect you were reluctant to hand this beautiful van back to Hymer, wanted it for another week, month...! Lots to love and only a few niggles, couldn't believe the manual window opening and only one door to the cab! Crazy! Well all the niggles you mentioned I would have agreed to! The lighting was exceptional but you'd expect that for that amount of money! Very impressive!! Your review was very impressive too! You're so full on & honest which is why we all love your vids! So sorry about your cousin and your friend, it's awful having to endure these losses but it's something that none of us is immune from. I had a scare last week, I suffered a diabetic ketoacidosis attack which in short was my blood sugars spiked! It was early before breakfast so was frightening to say the least. @@andrewjditton Since all TV's now have internet, it should now be easy to display your computer or smartphone screen on the larger TV screen via the remote and activating Bluetooth pairing from each to the TV & vice versa. That way, you can watch KZitem or any apps like Netflix, etc., that you already have on your devices on the larger TV screen as well, via the TV remote and the devices themselves. A comprehensive review that did full justice to a top of the range Hymer motorhome. As usual not afraid to identify a few shortcomings such as the driver's seat etc. but the review was very fair and positive. Personally I prefer matching carpet (3 - 4 pieces) to hide the flooring and catches and yet still allows acceptable access to the storage lockers as required. Clearly another 'optional extra'! Looking forward to the next episode of Dougal's European adventure.

Hello, I saw your video with great attention and curiosity because I have a new ML790 since the end of April. I must confess that I love this car, that I saw some videos of this model before buying and, because its video is brilliant, I recommend it to those who are really interested in this car. In the impossibility of communicating directly with you, I’ll leave the owner's opinion: The door with central command is fantastic and also closes the garage, the step on the driver's door is very practical, the power system with lithium batteries associated with the 2 solar panels is spectacular and as I live in Portugal I am very pleased to choose to have air conditioning (if it did not malfunction 😡) I also have your opinion about the negative points you focused on in the video and the living/meal area is too tight, the driver's seat is not flexible enough to rotate and give a good position for meals, the air conditioning stopped working due to an electronic problem and Hymer says that Truma does not have a replacement part, so I can't use it. And also Hymer Connect was chosen as an extra in September 2020 (on the car order) and I only received it in September 2021 but it would be beautiful if everything worked as promised what unfortunately doesn’t happen, this device is 100% marketing and only 50% operability as we see in your video and also, the lights can change intensity and tone day/night but the dimmers turn on with on/off switch off (in the app) and does not allow you to turn off, that has a defect. The best option is to exchange the €890 for other extras because Hymer Connect does not work conveniently and I have already returned mine for reset. Thank you for your attention

Great review. Love the way you group the different topics and discuss them in detail. I know you said you like to drive it and the reversing camera is a big help...but I'm curious, how is it driving a vehicle this big through small European villages ? . I notice in one of your shots when parked up it takes up the full length of a parking spot...does it's length every prove to be a problem when getting into a spot in a camping place ?. The 899 twin rear axle model is 3ft - 7" longer....do you think the 899 is too long for for the type of use you had, or can the 899 be easily parked in typical camping spots ?

Dear Andrew, Many thanks for publishing a comprehensive, informative and entertaining review. Whilst the wife & I have no interest in changing our Autosleeper campervan we are always curious as to the functions and features of what is available. Having spent a fair bit of money on lithium/solar/charging & monitoring upgrades in the past year we agree completely with your conclusions about the leisure battery upgrades - We have found that it gives us infinitely more suitable pitching options and is an absolute game changer. However we were surprised that Hymer do not offer a battery computer as part of the lithium pack as it gives a precise % of the remaining power capacity rather than best guessing based on battery voltage. Agree too that the reversing camera is an absolute necessity although surprised it doesn't double as a rear view camera as the Camos Jewel one does. The one thing I was surprised was missing was an external 4G/5G aerial and internal router to provide Wi-Fi capabilities. This would've been a far better option than the satellite dish not just for TV watching (which I understand doesn't really interest you) but for working on the road and getting a signal where your phone/ipad cannot. As a great fan of German products we agree that the cab blinds, non-upgraded habitation door and non-pattern matching service hatches are poor and inconsistent with what would be expected from this quality package. Lack of gas struts is just penny pinching. Lastly our sympathies and condolences to you for your recent losses. Our experiences have not been dissimilar to yours and were a major factor in our decision to buy what we did. Carpe Diem!

Ever being driving along the road on a nice sunny day, when all of a sudden your windscreen is wet and smeared. Great review! Very comprehensive, addressing a lot of details. Since three months I own a Hymer Modern Comfort B MC T580 and I am very pleased. Concerning the commonalities between Masterline and Modern Comfort models I can agree with almost all of your ratings and recommendations. The rotation of the front seats is not very easy, the driver seat is limited by the steering wheel and the passenger seat in my T (semi-integrated) is limited by the passenger door. However, these drawbacks are owing to the Mercedes layout. In contrast, the door with the noisy closing is a Hymer thing. When I specified my camper I was aware of the option of soft-closing for Masterline models, but for Modern Comfort models this is not available as option. You did not mention the fuel consumption, it is rather high in my view (12l/100km Diesel, approx. 2l/1000km AddBlue), of course depending on your driving profile. The smart battery systems works great.

Just a point of safety with the electric windscreen blinds, if you don’t put those little clips down and you are driving do they go completely down? That would cause an accident. You are so right about the measurements, they never tell you about the cut offs. I’m so very sorry to hear your sad news, yes you are so right life is too short. I had two horrible years, my dog died in 2017 and six months after that my Mum ( only 79 years old) died then another six months my brother ( at 59 ) died. So I decided to give up work, buy a camper van and with my new little dog go on adventures. Life is too short to anything less ( if you can afford to that is). Thanks for a great review.

Oh gees, sorry to hear about your awful rough time Carolyn. Those little clips are additional safety features - it stops before it gets to them, and you could always press the 'up' button if it doesn't. Enjoy your new camper!

Thanks for such a detailed and totally honest review Andrew. I’m very keen on the Hymer Duomobil, probably the smaller of the 2 models. With your vast experience would you be happy driving these type of motor homes on UK roads, I’m especially thinking about the Hebrides after watching your excellent series!

It's really down to you and what YOU want. Coaches and lorries manage the Hebrides OK... but a smaller vehicle will compromise on your living space.

Great review. Always remember to dig into the available options from Mercedes and Hymer when buying this motorhomes. Small things like fabulous mercedes tyre pressure control or mbux wireless charging and apple carplay options didn't appear in the hymer prince list but they are available if you ask for them. I own a smaller new BMCi, but shares similar ‘bugs’ with masterline.

Hi Andrew. Great and thorough review. The only thing that came to mind is that I'm not convinced Hymer cheaped out on a gas strut for the locker in their high-end ML series, perhaps there is a sound technical reason.

I think not Thomas, as you will find out in a later video about our next motorhome. Watch this space ;)

Excellent review Andrew, I have been following the series waiting for the review. I think the 780 would be the one for me. Completely get the function vs bling with Hymer. They sit at the sweet spot for me. When the time comes to move from a caravan, Hymer will be very high on my list. Very sorry for your recent losses and thank you for your very informative content.

Great, comprehensive review Andrew and whilst I love the Hymer and build quality (our van is a Merc) I am surprised that there are some elements that I would class as obviously basic but are only available as options especially at the price point. Looking forward to joining you and Dougal on your next adventures 😀

The silver exterior finish vs white, is there any difference in how warm it gets inside in bright sun?

I don't think so, they are both reflective.

From overseas: Andrew, I notice in this Hymer and your coverage of Auto Trail & Burstyn, none includes a microwave oven. Great space/energy savers, but are these not popular in the UK?
@andrewjditton

Many manufacturers keep a microwave on the options list, so the buyer can decide. If someone is going to spend the majority of their time off-grid, then a microwave is of little use. Thanks for watching.

A great review of a fantastic motorhome Andrew, do they do a semi integrated, like the cathargo C tourer ?Only problem I see with the C tourer is bathing and sleeping area can't be shut of from the living area. Would you say cathargo is a lower quality than a hymmer ?
@andrewjditton

Hi Philip, check out the Hymer website for the full range. I can't comment regarding Carthago - it wouldn't be fair as I have not had the same opportunity to live with one. Of course, if Carthago want to sponsor a trip... ;)

@@andrewjditton I'd back cathargo sponsor u , you show the pluses and negatives. I like the merc base C tourer, except the privacy, a door that close off the rear changing room a must m8

Nice I like the review as its the same model I am looking to buy with island bed next year. Solar for the lithium battery and inverter upgrade is a must and one I will be adding along with automatic. I don't get their reasoning for making it 4430kg with a zero cost upgrade to make 4500kg? I can only think that there must be a country with a weight limit or tax or or tax class or both. The other I cannot work out is the price difference of £4370 between master line and modern comfort line as specs look the same and what you get better for that price.

Great review , You are a beautyful man , my english is bad , that's why a switsh over on Dutch . I can understant your language , but writting is not always so simple . Thank you and I let you know my experience later on . Greeting Ferdi

That silver we are seeing so much more of it over here, it really blends into the road in a way white doesn't. There is a light version & a darker version both can act as camouflage in differing lighting conditions. I wish the powers that be would add a visibility test to the safety rating of a vehicle.
