Hyperia, the UK's new record breaking tallest and fastest coaster, is more than a little on the short side. For the immense speed gained from its hyper coaster height, it slams into some trims and then retreats to the final brakes in the blink of an eye.
The UK, characterised by its stringent planning laws, is not world renowned for the high quality of its coasters. Yet Merlin Entertainments managed to obtain planning permission to build a hyper coaster at Thorpe Park, and Hyperia, built by Mack Rides, has some interesting and unique world class elements to it. It just seems a shame that a once in a generation UK coaster (the previous record holder being built all the way back in 1994 with Arrow Dynamics The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach) is so very short.
This creation takes the layout of Hyperia, and extends it with the addition of 3 more elements. Despite Planet Coaster's friction settings being increased for this creation, even with the addition of a much longer layout, it still hauls into the final brakes. I didn't want to extend the layout too much so that Hyperia can keep its signature pace and design language.
What would you have built?
