It's very spooky, the universe of Hyperion is full of weird mysteries, technological and spiritual, if you ever read the whole Hyperion cantos, remember that it's a very spiritual, religious saga that contemplates God(s) and both mans and AI's relationship with God(s) a lot. I highly recommend that you read it, the first two books are spectacular, Endymion books are more, well, pulp'y and in my opinion, not as good as the first two.

I find it interesting a Catholic priest would sign up for this. The doctrine of the Shrike church is man is permanently stained with original sin. This denies the atonement of original sin that occurred when Jesus Christ died on the cross. Also baptism is performed to wash away original sin. One last theological point is as Catholic the priest should believe the End Time is when creation is finally redeemed when Christ returns. Not some demon is unleashed to destroy all of humanity.

All very good points. The Church of the Shrike is clearly heretical in any number of ways. Although I have to say that one of the many reasons I left the Catholic Church is that the doctrine of original sin never made much sense. Now that every intelligent theologian realizes that Genesis is folklore, The Church has had to reformulate this doctrine into unrecognizability. Why, for example, should the Sikhs burn in Hell, when every Sikh I’ve met is far more “Christian” than most Christians? In any case the Shrike could easily be gotten rid of with a nuclear warhead.
@ilejovcevski79

I love how things that are very new still can parallel one of my favorite series. The Blasphemous games perfectly embody the church of the final atonement. Pain purifies your mind and soul and allows you to get a small step closer to divinity. Of course the Shrike is a cool future robot too that some may revere, but it's all about putting people through a sensory experience that we all know to well.

Have you read David Zindell's "Neverness" going onto the trilogy "A requiem for Homo Sapiens". They have a Hyperion vibe but not really. Hyperion has always been a square peg for me. Not top tier but good enough to be. I see a comment about it be cubist and that's true although leaning more towards a brutalist futurism, probably why it's never been one of the popular kids.

Is the Shrike a Technicore construct or a "lions, tigers and bears" construct? Mr. Simons seems to change the Shrike's origin (creators) in the Endymion books. Continuity seems to be a problem in the series. The excuse for some of the continuity problems is that the Poet, Martin Silenus, got it wrong, made it up, or did not know when he wrote his Contos.

Hey Quinn, hoping i could air this out here since its your most recent upload, but i just wanted to say i am a newish subscriber and i appreciate your unending commitment to sci fi content here on youtube. I read through the dune saga this summer for the first time, and found the themes herbert established to be as equally enthralling as a setting so futuristic and mystical that its unrecognizable compared to the present. Your understanding of the narrative and its implications has really scratched my Dune discussion itch. I typically reserve appreciation comments such as this for channels i truly admire and genuinely wish the best for. I will be sure to like and share to help out with the algorithmic stuff, as well as check out some other topics you cover, since ive developed a soft spot for the genre. Tldr; thank you for your work Quinn, and I hope Villeneuve's adaptation brings plenty more new Dune fanatics to your page.
