I've watched a ton of your videos and b/c I'm not as smart, I had to watch them like 3x so hope that helps your algorithm with views. Haha. Sounds like this is the best 100w charger you've reviewed. Only drawback is the idle consumption. So for a travel charger, this seems perfect. At least that's what I'm gathering from your reactions to your findings.
@AllThingsOnePlace

I'm certainly not smart, just focused. Anything I can explain better to help? The algorithm, no one knows what helps that, ha. I've slowed things down on newer videos and slowly added more explanations to videos to hopefully help with the context. This was the first charger I found that wasn't bad so that helped a lot! But context of time, it isn't the BEST anymore, but it is still very good. You're probably the first one to watch this one in a while! ha I still have this charger but I've replaced it with the Baseus 100w desktop model mostly for the lower idle power. This charger has aged a bit and the newer offerings are quite a bit smaller than this for travel, this model is still current though and the price is good.

Just found your channel and love it! I don’t have the technical knowledge or equipment, so this level of in-depth review is awesome. One suggestion (selfishly) is to review the Invzi 100w multiport adapter. I bought this and love the form factor, but it can get very hot. Wondering if I should keep it or move on to something else. Anyway, look forward to more reviews!

Ah, an oldie video (at least in terms of channel age). I haven’t used this adapter in a while but this is a good device. From what I remember the idle power was a little on the high side. Being a bit older it may have some issues with negotiation but even the new stuff still has problems with that.

I have the same one. Seems like a good charger so far. It does have issues negotiating multiple devices and ends up in a reset loop. Nice to know it does have active pfc though
@AllThingsOnePlace
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, handling multiple devices is complicated since each will send data to the power adapter at different timings. Anything else I have tested turns off power delivery when you plug in a second device. This one isn't perfect but it's a step in the right direction.

Have any of your viewers requested reviews of the hyphen -x belonging to your dreaded class of 65w? There’s a three port travel version of this and I think we’re all curious if the 65w version at such a better value of sub $20 lives up to the same performance as its 100w brother.
@AllThingsOnePlace
9 ай бұрын
The 65W was among the not so great chargers. Anker or Ugreen seem to be the top picks in this field still for multiport options, the Amazon is pretty out of date at this point, not a lot of modes, one port.
@Funcentric

@@AllThingsOnePlace I see so even the same brand as the hyphen x 100w, the 65w falls short in performance? I know that received highest marks in the 100w category even including safety certifications. 65w seemed more attractive partly because of the current price point of $19 for a 65w 3 port charger compared to the same brand where the 100w is more like $48.

@AllThingsOnePlace

hmmm, that sounds abnormal. I stopped using this adapter in favor of more modern ones myself. It is pretty rare but I have found a few charges and devices that cause the loops. The dual 35w apple adapter is one that doesn't like a lot of devices. This hyphen-X is getting a bit on in years and could certainly do with an update.

Hey I'm really impressed by your detailed reviews. I'm in the market for one now and was wondering if you knew this or the Kovol 120W charger will be a better buy. The Kovol 120W is $75 on Amazon right now and has the advantage of being a tabletop charger as opposed to wall plug charger.

I haven't looked at that one. I will get it on the list though. So many of these new brands popping up and they aren't cheap either! I have to buy all of these. I see one worrying specification though. "100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 2.5A Max." 2.5A Max. which means no power factor correction.

i am buying this charger based on your review - but how much power is it using while it is plugged in with no load? i'm wondering if it is worthwhile to leave it plugged in since plugging and unplugging might do more damage to the unit?
@AllThingsOnePlace

It’s about 50 cents of electricity to leave this power adapter plugged in in its idle state all year in the USA. It isn’t a ton of electricity but is a bit more than most others though.

Outside of the issues to the grid what other benefits does APFC give? Does it help with conversion to DC or provide cleaner output?

With an active power factor correction circuit it can help the dc output. I think per your next comment I will have to do some content on that.

I'm really liking your reviews, very good info! Have you considered reviewing the UGreen 100W PD charger?
@AllThingsOnePlace
2 жыл бұрын
I did look at this one and it is on the list. It is expensive and I've seen several pieces of evidence that point to it being not good. 1) the rated input current max means it likely is not a power factor corrected device (which means large PEAK currents not so great for the grid especially at the 100W size) and 2) no safety listing. I have one UGREEN adapter that has a proper safety listing and its okay (the 20W) the others I've looked at were not good. So, for the money it doesn't look like a great option. I need to check it out eventually though. Since Amazon seems to push it too. There are so many! haha

For some strange reason your channel and another has landed me a newly found interest in SMPS. Could you do a video and explain for us non electrical engineers what the components do in these USB supplies? With an increase in "GAN" supplies there appears to be mixed messages on their usefulness below 100w so some inside info on that tech would be cool also. Thanks for these videos as they spark my curiosity!
