Here it is: the first SUV to get Hyundai’s full-fat N Performance treatment. It’s the Kona N - a small crossover that borrows the oily bits and most of the platform from the Hyundai i30 N hot hatch, packaging a 2.0-litre turbo engine making 206kW (276 hp) in a 50mm shorter wheelbase and taller body.
The Kona N is still front-wheel drive only. It doesn’t have AWD, meaning it isn’t a truly direct rival to the Audi SQ2, a vehicle the Kona N arguably targets in the Australian market. However, it starts from $47,500.
Chief rival to this vehicle when it arrives next year will be the Volkswagen T-Roc R.
