I do like how Hyundai often uses more tried-and-true design in their cars...should help with longevity and maintenance over the long term. @@speedkar99 Hyundai tried to be "innovative" and then look what happened between 2011-2015. Fucking disasters. Manufactures need to put reliability FIRST and if certain innovations aren't good for longevity of the vehicle, it should not be put in a mainstream basic CUV or sedan. Unlike some of their 2.0Ts and other crap, this Palisade will see 200k miles or more with relative ease. I'm scared of what we're gonna find about these Toyota engines in the coming years. That is definitely the norm to have multiple catalytic converters. IMO they just add to the curb weight, restrict performance over time and can cost thousands of dollars when they finally burn out or get stolen. Well that’s the EPA so manufacturers don’t have much of a choice.

@@EricFortuneJr. Cats are actually important - they convert nasty gases to Co2 and water. I'd take those negatives over smoggy air - ie, like a lot of Asian countries where there's lots of 2 stroke bikes and no emissions standards.
@EricFortuneJr.
3 жыл бұрын
@@MattExzy I know how how catalyst systems work and how they’re a vital part reduce smog emissions. Just too expensive to replace and unfortunately there’s a strong black market for them. I personally think the federal government should step in and make so a license is required to sell them legally. Scrap sales should heavily regulated and audits should be performed. A vin# should be stamped or engraved in each part and a sales license and photo ID should be required to sale them. The vin# has to be valid and cleared before a transaction can be made. It’s the most valuable non mechanical component on the car and without full coverage you could be on the hook for thousands of dollars.

Great review. I watched this one and the Highlander one for comparison as we are shopping and will eventually get one of the 2. I'm heavily leaning to the Highlander mainly because it is the safer choice. But the Palisade seems to be better for repairs in terms of accessibility for components. I'm a little leery of the engine in the Palisade as it is new, even if its a variant of another version. Not to mention the highlander has port and direct injection which should be the norm these days to be honest. Having owned BMW's where the focus is on driving performance and feel, both these cars are woefully underwhelming in the performance department for the cost (at least in upper trims), but that's just my $0.02.

Looks like a lot of lower cost choices where people don't look. Maybe a little bit too much plastic usage and probably going to be expensive to fix in a fender bender.

Great review as always speedkar99. What's the verdict on plastic intake manifolds, can they be ok or will they eventually fail as under-hood heat gets to them?

Well my 04 Camry v6 has a plastic plenum and I just did the spark plugs on it. Seemed fine @314km

What would you recommend to protect the exposed fuel filler neck?

I'm surprised Hyundai isn't sending gas to wash off the valve tops, like Toyota does with their gdi.

Just hit 1,000 miles on my Kia Telluride, I know the drivetrain and engine are shared between it and the Palisade, but do you know how many of the specifics you're talking about are shared (e.g. oil pan being covered underneath, plastic oil filter housing, exposed fuel filler neck, etc.)?
@speedkar99

I'd say almost every component mechanically would be shared. You can cross reference part numbers to confirm.

I don't like the way new cars are going. That's why I bought "new" old truck in a 2018 nissan frontier. The transmission has a dipstick. Its port injection only. I can work on it myself.

Those Frontier's with the 4.0 are really good trucks

I cant believe manufacturers still make direct engines. When they know You will have problems at 60k miles or kms.
