Story:
It started acting up about 6 months ago. We took it in for service, and the Hyundai dealer couldn’t find any issues with the car. They checked the starter, alternator, and Key communication computer thing. They said there was nothing wrong with the car, and after a full day charge, everything is working. They ended up charging us a couple hundred for the service, as it was not covered under warranty.
The issue MOSTLY went away for a couple months, but would come back here and there. But I was able to start the car after a couple attempts and ended up placing a trickle charger on the car over a couple occasions. Assumed the battery was dying and needed to be replaced sometime soon
Recently, started having major issues, and decided, fuck it, and bought a new battery. The issue was resolved for a couple days, and now the car will not start, at all.
HE PROBLEM:
The dash comes on, all the lights work, the radio works, everything electronics work in the car. But when turning on the engine, it clicks and then nothing happens. I hear a noise of some kind of humming, and then stops. I have tried lightly turning the key, moving the shifter to N then back to N. Cannot get the car started.
RESOLUTION - ISSUE RESOLVED
I called Hyundai Roadside assistance. My service with Roadside expired a couple months ago and I had to tow the car 115km to the nearest Hyundai Service department (Where it was purchased). I was NOT happy about this.
The next morning, Hyundai called, and said it started just fine and that we can come pick up the car.
My wife unloaded on the poor service guy and pretty much told him to F*** off and he can keep the car if he cant find the problem. I then called Hyundai and gave them a hard time about the issue. This is the second time they have done this, and the second time we have towed the car to Hyundai and they were able to start it no problem.
They had to call in a professional, I sent them this video. After two days in the shop they found the issue FINALLY. They ordered and replaced the Starter Motor. There was nothing wrong with the starter.
So after towing the car two times to Hyundai, replacing the battery, and paying for failed service once, we finally got our car back fixed. It was under warranty.
Resolution: Replaced the Starter Motor.
