Great video! I-66 through Arlington County has always been an interesting road and the huge construction projects out in Fairfax County too. Oddly enough I just booked a trip to DC and will be driving up there in a few weeks.

Yeah looks like a near total rebuild on some parts of the highway.

I also recommend the 66 East to 28 North interchange movement. It’s now a flyover where the 66 East traffic would exit for Route 28 North earlier than expected when it was a loop ramp.

The DC portion (through the District itself) is the eastern end - and rather interesting. It ends at the west end of the National Mall - with the Kennedy Center to its west - and the Watergate Hotel (and office complex - where a certain political party had their HQ broken into in 1972) to the east. It is one of only three Interstate highways to exist in the District proper - Interstates 295 and 695 (unrelated to the Baltimore Beltway) are the others, though others were planned (including the never-built "child" of Interstate 66 that would have run north to the also-unbuilt "Three Sisters Bridge (from Scott Kozel's excellent "DC's Unbuilt Freeways").

This I 66 interstate was proposed to run from cost to cost. Some of the interstate has been built in Kentucky running from I75 west to the state line. Would be a good video to do on why other states have not built their sections

Yep, the classic truck merging into you because they didn't shoulder check. Happens all the time on 66 or 395, and like you, I would never honk if there's room in the next lane to avoid because there's a good chance these people will roadrage and run you off the road. And the car in the left lane moved over to give you room because they saw what was happening, and are so used to it they're like, uuggghhh this shit again.

Normally I would have gotten off at Fairfax County Parkway and headed south. Glad I did. Wotta muckin' 'fess! I-66 is now a toll road from the Beltway into the District as VDOT tries to make some money to pay for all this. Glad I do not have to drive it anymore.

Are you going to try the Virginia Ez-Pass Express Lanes on 95, 395, 495, and/or 66?

Usually when I’m in the area it’s a weekend and the lanes are closed. Might have a chance to drive them one day.

@@MileageMikeTravels 495 express lanes are bidirectional. 66 outside the beltway will be bidirectional when it opens around the Christmas season next year. I cannot wait for the 66 express lanes to open and to see new auxiliary lanes for 66 especially between exit 52 in Centreville all the way to 495.
