Watching you work teaches me that first you have to learn where the metal will go when you use a hammer and/or dolly on it. It also teaches me that unless you get the metal where it belongs simply forcing it to where you can weld it together and filling in the low spots is a waste of time. I never thought about the techniques and experience it takes to get to where you can fix damage to metal panels.

The rear fenders on my37 Chev PU were pretty banged up, but no missing metal from rust. Surprisingly the only real rust was two spots about 2 inches long where the floor pan meets the back of the cab. Currently the fenders are in Minnesota with a guy that has a reputation of a good metal repairman. I could have picked up Fiberglass Repos, but I would rather have all original metal. I'm building a Resto-mod. I've boxed the frame, installed a FATMAN MII front end and an LT1 from a 2014 Silverado. But overall, my intent is for it to appear as close to original but obviously lowered.

I liked the first solution -- chuck it! One glance, and my assessment was 'this fender is phukt'. But I know this guy, and he loves a lost cause. Transformation! I figured there would be patches, due to the truly mangy condition of the cracks and hey -- it's dilapidated! But after much work, it became a fender again. I still don't understand the Tijuana part. I also do not understand the use of the Mapp torch -- it does not heat the same as an acetylene torch, so I am not sure how it helps. Of course, i am the student, not the critic.

When you are manipulating a fender with a big tear like that it really shows how much form adds to structural integrity. One forgets that when looking at the nice aesthetics of a curve but that curve means more strength with less material and internal bracing. I'm a big fan of form following function.

Good morning, when you said you destroyed that fender I immediately didn't believe you because you're more talented than that! As a matter of fact you're amazing I've never seen anyone that can work metal like you. Keep up the good work, you will really go somewhere one day! By the way I'm 72 years old and I've been around body shops!

I'm another one that enjoys watching you turn junk back into something very presentable, maybe it's an ASMR thing, or maybe just because it's something that I'd like to be able to do but have no hope of doing, having tried and failed in the past. Bizarrely I also watch the odd video game but only if the game is played in a way that the creators really wouldn't like, I play no games myself as I've found them to be an appalling waste of time. I thrive on painful, tedious repetition, but I have Asperger's (assburgers) so if things aren't the same all the time I tend to have a really bad day. I also love cats, so you got me there too.

Hot rod hippie made a cheap planishing hammer for around $75 a couple years ago. It doesn’t have a frame, but if I had to guess, you’d probably know of a way to make a frame.

Have you ever actually looked at something and said “That’s just too bad to bother with” ? Cause if you made that a usable fender- which you obviously have - I suspect you have a very high tolerance for destruction

Thanks, yup when over 80 percent of the body resembles swiss cheese it's time to look for a better project haha. Once I figure out how to weld to air I might be able to save more junk

I would rather watch body work. I am with you I don’t understand watching someone play video games.I sorta think your just showing off. I don’t know anyone who would fix that fender. It’s like you tried to find the worst one. Anyway good work

Haha definitely not showing off. This was the only fender I have so I had no choice.
