Greatest female warrior of all time. I have the replica of her silver ring. Joan of Arc ring returns to France after auction sale A medieval ring said to have belonged to Joan of Arc, the French heroine who fought the English during the 15th Century, has returned to France after nearly 600 years in England. The ring was bought by the Puy du Fou foundation, which runs a historical theme park in France, at auction in London for $425,000 (£300,000). Joan gave it to an English cardinal before she was burned at the stake. The Puy foundation said the ring's return to France was highly symbolic. The French heroine is thought to have handed the ring to England's Cardinal Henry Beaufort on the eve of her execution in 1431. It remained in England ever since, and there is thorough documentation to establish its provenance. On Friday it was flown back to France. Puy du Fou president Nicolas de Villiers told French TV it was a "glorious return" for a "French treasure". The foundation appealed to donors to help it bid enough for the ring, which will be officially unveiled this month. The Puy du Fou foundation runs a historical theme park near Nantes in western France that attracts about two million visitors a year.

Greatest female warrior of all time. She was the banner and inspiration of the French army as the king should have been. And one of her greatest achievements is not even mentionned in this movie: Encouraging the French leaders to follow the English army and to destroy it ("Make use of your spurs!") which then really happened in the battle of Patay. But, if you are interested, there is another woman who also achieved victories against an almost overwhelming invading force, the Vikings. It was Aethelflaed, eldest daughter of king Alfred the Great. She was married to the Aethelred, Lord of the Mercians. When the health of her much older husband deteriorated, she took over control of the realm. Together with her brother Edward, she fought the Vikings successfully, in some cases with an army of her own and re-conquered much former English territory from the enemy. She also did a great deal of fortifying against the enemy. Her contribution was more that of organization from the top than that inspirational impetus of Joan of Orleans.

Joan of Arc or Jehanne la Pucelle ' story , is probably the most interesting story from the Hundred Year War era. Yet, this was a not a religious story, it was political ! A nasty political struggle between two royal families. If you take the time to read the first authors in Medieval French, from the late 15th century to the 17th century, it's politics at his best. It became a ''religious story'' by about 1840. After the German-Franco War of 1870, France was in turmoil. A hero was needed ! Then, in 1879, the Roman Catholic Church from Paris requested from the Vatican, the sainthood application of the now called , Maid of Orléans ! She became after numerous events, a saint only in 1920 ! France had now a hero and a saint !

IF the movie stayed on this funny brutal tone it could be easly one of best movies ever, but the other grim part killed it.. you can go grim depressive or humor fantasy...do both in one movie is bad idea:/

"To ARMS!" Yeah, I think, maybe, just a little, the English underestimated this peasant girl ... alas, God didn't 😀

Please, she was not a ''peasant girl '' and she was a woman. She arrived in Chinon with Yolande d'Anjou, at 21 ! The father was the ''prevot'' for the entire region. This was an important family from the Barrois region !

Ok, it actually shows her punching out an armored English soldier with her bare hand (LOL) and then drawing her sword, although the historical Joan of Arc said she didn't fight at all: during the fourth session of her trial (27 February 1431) she said “during assaults I carried the banner, so as to stay out of any killing; and I have never killed anyone.” The rest of the scene often seems like something out of Monty Python (spiked armor?) and doesn't have much in common with the actual historical events.

The French. They also did their best on ww1. In certainly formThey won the war. The y invaded Germany at the beginning of the war, they stopped the germans on Marne Battle, and they stopped the germans on verdún battle.

Clearly you know nothing about French Fighting Spirit. Their Revolutions make The American one look like a Picnic.

The French have historically had a great military with lots of fighting spirit. It was fear of French might that stopped the British from over extending themselves and completely crushing their rebelling colonies. The United States owes its very existence as a nation to France.
