It is very true that China is still behind lots of western countries, and I’m also sad to see some Chinese are equally arrogant as their western opponents. All I’m saying above is that China doesn’t deserve hostilities just because it’s different from your system. If you’re wondering why some people left China, the reasons are far more than politics. I’m really moved by your second question (which ask the New York Times reporter) , which is “ do you even care about the people living in Xinjiang ?” Recently, the foreign media really made up more and more conspiracies and fake news about Xinjiang ( which happens to be my hometown) , I also deleted some of my social accounts (partly) because of this ( I happen to be one of the Uyghur/Uygur people) . I have watched your videos about Xinjiang, I saw that taxi driver looking forward his good future , the children in Aksu( uygur name of 阿克苏,a city in southern part of Xinjiang) … Maybe more videos won’t wake the people who pretended to be asleep, but I won’t keep silence anymore, I really hope there would be more voice and strength to let everybody knows the real truth about Xinjiang. And his vid didn't even make a sound on its first wave, like FFS everyone with a brain knew it is very stupid and some even guessing he will used this as bargain chip to seek political asylum in the US (those were right 50%, the vid is one of his chip, but I guess no one was paying for it so he had to use the illegal way to get to the US in the end). Then later after being mocked enough, the vid got deleted (as usual) and no one cares anymore. However, when Chinese netizens knew he actually smuggled himself into the US, it was still feeling unreal, how can someone accept such cheap stuff as the bargain chip, then it triggered some netizens to dig out who guanguan is and what he had been doing. Like the link I have posted Well let's say, as a general Chinese, living oversea, I am kind of happy that this mad man found his way into his dreamland, and he will find out soon, he will find out the reality really soon~ huh p.s. I meant the first time his vid showed up in the Chinese network it didn't make a ripple, but here on youtube, you know the story already...

First of all, congratulations! You and your team are reaching broader audience due to this NT coverage regardless of their intention. As they say, no one is going to beat a dead dog. You are influential enough for them trying to discredit you. Secondly, as the song lyrics states, something don't kill me make me stronger. You got a great opportunity to elevate the YChina platform to another level. It's an opportunity and challenge at the same time. However, I have the faith in you and your team to successfully take the challenge and keep speaking the truth. At the end, truth will prevail and all those manipulation and fabrication will break into piece as time goes by. You and your teammates will be so proud of yourself looking back one day. Go Raz Go!

Hi Raz. Long time follower, first time commenting. Your videos are amazing and obviously you have a great team supporting you. You have a really positive style to all your videos which sets yourself apart from the other China vlogger channels, although I also enjoy their styles too. Your responses to the NYTimes is professional and commands respect. But to be honest, don't expect too much from them given their preconceived ideas and their biased opinions. My prediction is they'll put a one sentence line reading "NY Times provided an opportunity for Raz to respond, but he declined to address any of our concerns".
Mr Gao, I often need to hold my tears when watching your videos. I think many of your audience including myself have been or will eventually have to go through the struggle with people hating on China. However your videos have been very neutral and show day to day lives of different people in China, what's to complain. I look forward to your next video and wish many more to come.

Just got recommended to take a look at your channel. I have only watch this one, but well done! Good questions you asked the NY Times Reporter. A lot of people have no clue, but truly believe that they are the only who know the entire truth. Ignore the haters. Keep going!

Great video, Raz! Good on you to call them out! Irenembered watching your video on Xinjiang. When you talked to the cotton farmers, I was thinking that a lot of western MSM would not have been very happy about what you did.

I bet they will not include your answers in their report, unless they can think of a way to twist what you said and make it look nefarious 😐. Just want to let you know your work is highly appreciated. Thank you so much for showing us what life is like in China, how it keeps developing and improving. I am a Chinese living overseas and have learned a lot from you and other KZitem channels (who have also been attacked maliciously by the w msm in the past year). I hope and believe their attacks will only serve to expose their intentions and more people will realize what they’re up to. Let’s unite and stay strong 💪 🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝. Peace 😊

Hi Raz, great response to the NYT. You & your team are doing a great job. One of the key point in your videos, is, perhaps, because of your language skills, (same for Mike the Teacher & others), you let the interviewees speak for themselves and your interactions with them (especially with the kids) are fantastic. Haters had been around since the dawn of human history and in those days, the haters even burnt people on stakes and crucified on the cross. Great people from Noah, Marco Polo etc etc., never let these haters distract from what they do, regardless if anyone believe in them and they never did it for money. Hence, please carry on your great work. Personally, I like to see the local geography/scenes, the local culture, their language, their history, how the local folks get by/fare, etc., regardless whether it is in China or any other places in the world or even, just a simple lively conversation/chats video with the local people on any topic..because that's how we learn and progress by interacting positively with (not through hating) others. Btw, Happy Belated birthday to Shasa...Cheers from Malaysia.

This was a crafty, professional, and clever way to deal with the situation. Lets see how they react. They may decide its better to not react at all. I live here in Jiangsu. I have been to Xinjiang. Beautiful place. We have a couple Xinjiang restaurants close by. I made friends with the owners. One day they finally came out and asked me why my government and media lies about them. They then asked if our media is so free then why are they spreading lies that are totally untrue. I could only explain that our media is not free at all. Like a magic trick they tell us we are free to speak while the political parties are paying them to send the message they want through donations. Yes independent media can and do tell the truth but the mainstream media is so loud nobody hears it unless they are actually looking for the truth. Its a joke. That being said we dance sometimes in the restaurant after closing to their wonderful music snapping fingers and enjoying more Wusu beer and spicy lamb kabobs with that delicious bread. What i see in western media makes me sick and could be nothing further from the truth. Love your videos. Keep up the good work!!

Your ability to speak fluent Chinese gives you a real insight and feeling about the country of China and the people that live in the various regions. So many of the western media reporters have a predetermined conclusion. 预定的 about China and Xinjang without any real knowledge or experience of visiting China and understanding its cultural traditions and its people.

Hi Raz, your channel is one of the channels I totally trust on China. You live there. Speak the language awesomely, understand the culture so well but most importantly you want understanding how people live in different parts of China. Your videos were the most insightful videos on Xinjiang that I’ve seen. You and your team did an unbelievable job. I love how you interview random people off the street and let them explain the situation. Such great insights. Government departments need to watch some of your videos. Don’t let the “attackers” in the western media get you down! I really love the channel for the real life views of life in China, the Chinese spoken ( in learning a bit of Mandarin) and your perspective on issues in China. Keep it up Raz! 👍👍👍 Happy birthday Shasha!🎂🎁🎈

I've never visited farms but I did a 21 days trip in Xinjiang before. All I can share is, all ppl I met no matter if he/she is Uyghur / Mongolian / Kazakh / Hui / Han or other ethnics are all kind and hospitality, indeed. Oh, by the way, I did this trip in 2013 and back to that time, I heard lots of the story about how laborers from all other provinces took trains here to pick up cotton during the harvest season.
