Atleast for the Coppola version where Dracula is Romanian, since originally Dracula wasnt Romanian, he was Hungarian, Székely to be more precise, so Béla Lugosi is actually closer to it, since he had a hungarian accent.

I just watched an interview with Christopher Lee where he said more or less the same thing. "Who played Dracula on screen more often: Bela Lugosi, John Carradine, or yours truly? The answer, surprisingly, appears to be me. Yet if you ask someone to emulate Dracula, they don't do vocal impressions of John Carradine or me (thank heaven). No, forty years after his death, Bela Lugosi's face and voice are inexorably linked to his most famous role. After Dracula, he seldom got the chance to show his versatility, his range, or his sense of humor."
@d.m.collins1501

Come to think of it, I don't know why this video doesn't have a tidbit from John Carradine's Dracula. Maybe it's because he was mostly playing Dracula in loose canon sequels such as "House of Frankenstein" and "Billy the Kid vs. Dracula" where he wasn't required to bid anyone welcome to his house.

What about all the silly costumes? What about all the over-the-top goofy performances? What about them doing the dumb retconning of Dracula being Vlad Tepes, and Mina being his reincarnated lover? "Almost the perfect Dracula movie"? If you have Bram Stoker's novel maybe, sure. Otherwise, no.
@WhistleMeThis
2 жыл бұрын
All of those criticisms are the reason people love that movie. It’s like when people make fun of the 1931 movie for being cheesy. That “cheesiness” is perfect the way it is. That movie also evolved Mina’s character into a dark romantic heroine that people adore. Every film interprets Dracula differently that’s what makes it so enduring and legendary. Accuracy to the exact prose of the book is such a non-issue given that it’s a book whose own legacy had long since been surpassed by its immortal cultural legacy by its first century in the public sphere. People are going to love the 1992 movie forever.
