I was talking with a friend the other day who said to me, "What's the point of replicating Beatles music note for note?" My reply was, "For the same reason that I wouldn't want a fully untrained orchestra doing their own interpretation of Mozart." I'm a music theorist and I have an entire series analyzing and breaking down Beatles music. Even in their very early days, they were remarkable. To whit: the introduction to 'If I Fell' which contains a seamless half-step modulation from the key of Db Major to D Major. Most times such an extreme modulation comes off like cold water thrown in one's face. But this modulation is so sneaky, it's barely noticed by the untrained ear. To my mind, yes, the Beatles were pretty much unschooled but somehow their genius is remarkable enough to make comparisons to the classical greats. Leonard Bernstein had great respect for the Beatles as does contemporary classical analyst and composer, Howard Goodall who remarked, "The Beatles songbook is superior to Schumann's Song Cycles." I have great respect for musicians who respect the music of the Beatles and George Martin's influence on their work. Props to the Analogues for bringing out the marvelous and sublime recreations of Beatles music! I just found you guys and I love your work.

Thanks for bringing that up - indeed many Beatles' songs so many of us know feature sneaky songwriting tricks like that, one more famous example being "Penny Lane". After reading your comment I feel like I need to go back to "If I Fell" and listen carefully to what's going on there :) I'd like to ask you, do you know the band XTC? I'm not a musicologist but I have a feeling that what they were doing within the pop song formula was very much in the similar vein as the Beatles - check this for example: kzitem.info/news/bejne/k5p-35qBqaSgqHo

Well said, Vin! I grew up with their music. I became a professional guitarist due to their influence. Your allusion to Mozart is cool. As well as The Analogues, the Beatles' canon is regarded as sacrosanct by many others. In fact, their lack of formal music education makes their compositions more astonishing upon examination. I have come to regard the merging of these four talents as mystical. The timing of their arrival and the influence their music had on the sixties' generation is remarkable. And their continuing relevance to new generations of listeners is magical and profound. George rightly said, " The Beatles will exist without us. " That is the absolute truth!

Random observations after binging on these superb Beatles covers. 1. The string and horn arrangements are so important to the feel and impact of much mid to late period Beatles. The Beatles were lucky to have a producer/arranger of George Martin's sensitivity augmenting their songs. 2. The astonishly high and consistent level of song writing. Even the 'minor' songs are streets ahead of just about any other group's best work. 3. The Analogues are such sensitive, attentive interpreters. Never a foot wrong. They love these songs and reproduce them with fidelity and soul.

I especially like the intro around where the drums come in and the little bass blurr by Paul. They worked on this song on and off for a few weeks starting in August of 1967 before they went onto something else but they never attempted to play it live. Now here are the Analouges performing it live and they do a fantastic job. No it’s not perfect, but then I don’t think that John thought that the Beatles recorded version was perfect either. I think the Analouges give us the best live version of this song that can ever be given by anyone and I’m truly impressed!

An exceptionally impressive rendition of this song. Every single instrument was spot on, and the singing was great. I can't think of a single negative thing on this one. I first heard this as a young kid, back when it came out. Having three older brothers, I was exposed to lots of music that my friends "discovered" years later, lol. I always loved the cello in this one. It goes perfect with the vocals.
