This EP was a curious choice for this odd 1960s-70s Hollywood label, Blue Dolphin, run by Mike Stack. Stack would produce the Chamorro Guam artist, Johnny Sablan, Aunt Dinah's Quilting Party, and sundry rock acts (including a fuzzed-out acid version of "Norwegian Wood" by L.A. Smog). Apparently there was also some unfulfilled connection between Stack and filmmaker Ed Wood. I also found a news article which mentioned Stack playing tennis with a 75 year old Rudy Vallée.
But this track sticks out for all kinds of reasons. This gospel classic (performed by Mahalia Jackson, Elvis Presley, and your mama), features Delos Jewkes, better known as the baritone voice of God in Cecil B. Demille's film classic "The Ten Commandments," and a related parody on "The Andy Griffith Show." Jewkes was also a Mormon. While the organist, George Goulding, was a known magician and the organist at the Founder's building, where the mystical Christian community of the Religious Science Church gathered in Hollywood. I couldn't find much on Roy Williams. But this is a curious intersection of music, metaphysics, Hollwood history, and an outsider label with a sweet logo. This record is not even listed on Discogs, nor mentioned anywhere else I can find.
