Another great video Kent. If you look back on the video when your trying to get the circlip out you would see a small hole on the side, which you slide circlip around enough to put a straight head pick through the hole then you get a screwdriver or another pick and pop out the clip. Saginaw power steering pumps have the design. I did power steering for 15 years. Bought memories back of fighting to get those clips out when there rusted in. Hope it make sense what lm saying. It looks like a good candidate for a full-on restoration, for someone who’s into that. Except keep the lowering kit and the 454! It would look familiar, but there wouldn’t be another like it. Maybe just a dream, but a good one. Love seeing the factory firewall graffiti, they’re a little reminder that it was built by people on the line, not robots.

We still build them. The robots are in the Body Shop, doing the welding. That's why modern vehicles don't squeak so much. I work at GM Flint Assembly. We build GM HD trucks. There are still paint marks everywhere, for quality checks, just not writing.

The 5 lug stuff came on 71 and 72, with disc brakes. Often older trucks are updated with totaled out 71/72, or square body stuff. All three of those bumpers are dealer installed or owner installed, so the ford and GMC matching is possible. GMC trucks did in fact usually came with leafs in back, with coils being optional, the Chevy usually came with coils and optional leafs. The 69 gmcs were an oddity where coils were standard and leafs were optional like Chevy. 4:01

AT 14:33 you can see a hole in the case where you are trying to pull the retaining ring from. All you have to do is shove a small phillips screw driver in the hole and push the ring enough to get a small screw driver under the ring to remove. Pushing down the piston is really not required for removal.

Good condition truck, considering it's age. All the rust spots are typical of that age GM trucks. I'm a fan of the '64-66 models myself, but the '70's models are also pretty cool. Good looking engine! I'd probably swap out the tranny for a GM TH400, myself, as the 350 was designed for small block engines. Yeah, it works great with a big block. I'd just be more comfortable with the 400, as parts are more easily available for it.

A common problem on those is that dimmer switch. Wet boots with snow, ice salt corrode the switch and when they go bad your lights go out while driving.the turbo 350 might be ok for cruising but the 400 turbos are what gm used I believe

I’m commenting as we go on this vid… I love these trucks and spent 20 years thinking nothing but 67-72 trucks. 20:17 the headlight issue is most likely the push button dimmer switch. Click it a few times and we if they come on. Then order a new one before they aren’t available. It’s like a $20 part I think. It was 7 bucks 12 years ago anyways.

Dude the vacuum advance is only for cruising and gas mileage it advances it out to over 40 deg under light load you need to set the timing for total advance of about 30 or 34 deg and if it starts good leave it alone then the vacuum advance you may have to limit it cuz it may take it too far but to see base timing at 15 or 20 deg is not gonna hurt it as long as it starts good there are a lot of factors that affect advance fuel compression etc but don't put the vacuum advance on manifold vacuum it goes on a vacuum port above the base plate if it is in manifold vacuum when you floor it it looses vacuum and will rob power ported vacuum is where it goes so when you give it light throttle it gets vacuum and works look up some videos on it you'll see
