Color is apparently a personal thing. To me the sage green is just gorgeous. I would agree that a guitar at that price range should have the nut cut well, but they never seem to. I’ve even paid for a setup and still found the nut to be off. Arg! Sounds and looks beautiful to me.

Based on my experience, I can only share what I've personally observed, and others might have different perspectives. A couple of months ago, I purchased a new Squier Classic Vibe '50s Stratocaster, made in Indonesia, from Sweetwater. This guitar is, for all intents and purposes, a perfect 10 and compares very favorably to my Fender MIM Standard Stratocaster. If you're looking to save on the premium cost of a Fender made in North America (Mexico), the Squier offers a highly viable alternative.

10:29 I find the Tele player bridge to be much more comfortable to play over the traditional bridge, especially when it comes to palm muting. I actually got one of the first Player models when they came out in 2018 that came with bent-steel saddles rather than the blocks, and it sounds plenty twangy.

Yeah...I think the main difference in sound with the six-saddle bridge ,compared to the traditional Tele three-saddle bridge, is to move the sound of the guitar a little closer to a Strat tonality, and possibly more versatile and modern (like the other brands in the Cort/PRS range), but the three-saddle ashtray bridge with brass pieces actually has less asymmetrical vibration interfering with the transfer of fundamentals to the largely 90 degree edged body, contributing to upper mid spankiness!!

Can't deal with the E strings slipping off the board. I guess a properly cut nut could fix that. Hard to find a good tech though, especially when you're new to guitar. I would only buy online from Peach, you're far more likely to get a good guitar with a decent setup.
@feedrdev

Graphtech makes great pre-cut nuts in many sizes. You just shave excess height and width as you fit it, and it's an easy material to work with. I put some sandpaper over the 1st fret and worked it until it was what I wanted (to get the radius correctly). Replaced the nut on my Fender MIM Strat. Now it feels and plays great, no string slipping or tuning issues anymore. Easy DIY job, at least for me it was. And it was also easy to lightly roll the fretboard edges with some sand-paper. These rosewood (or even laurel) fretboards are great for that.

I just got my Player II Strat in yesterday and also noticed the high E string coming off the fingerboard while playing. As others have pointed out, it looks like Fender cut the nut slots wrong. There is more free space on the low E side of the board than the high E side. I may look into having my luthier cut a new bone cut to fix this. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the guitar.
@ChrisKobrzak

This seems to be a very common problem with Fender nuts these days. I’m sure we all agree misaligned slots, with much more space on the low E side, is not a feature but an obvious manufacturing flaw?

The first run of the player series I think around 2019/2020 were amazing guitars very close to US models and pretty flawless QC wise but they definitely seem to have drop standards lately especially when you check out some of the Sire models not to mention the top price Harley Bentons which are still half the price of these Fenders 🙄🤬Just get a Sire S3/T3 and put good pickups in it or get an S7/T7 which don't really need anything done but even if you did put high end pickups in it would still be cheaper than the player series😏👍🤘

John, I just received the exact same guitar, and have pretty much the same thoughts as yours. I’m not experiencing issues with the high string. Have you noticed this on yours?

I have had a "Squier classic vibe" for about ten years, and I was so happy with this guitar that I decided to buy a "real" one. Same model and color as you. And I am a little disappointed: the quality level is clearly lower at Fender, I can feel the frets, the nut is not finished, there is glue and other stuff on the nut and neck, and the edge of the neck is damaged on the first fret. I will keep it, fix all that, but it is sad.

There is no reason or advantage for the fretboard to be so narrow that the E strings ca slide off the frets. I spent some time working in a Guitar Store, and played many guitars with more than ample space on the fretboard outside the high E strings, and it never impeded playing, and can be advantageous for wide bends.

I had a player telecaster before, and I couldn’t get used to the neck profile, I don’t know why but it was so uncomfortable to play for me even after professional setup and frets leveling, never had anything similar before, and the most ridiculous that player strat, the same line fits me perfectly no pain in my hands, fender telecaster Vintera super comfortable neck, but player telecaster it was painful after one year of playing I sold it. Pretty sure they didn’t change the neck profile in player II, but this rosewood fingerboard looks so good 😭

Typical half assed assembly for a bolt on construction guitar under $1k. The high E string is practically falling off the edge of the fretboard. Generally an easy fix, but most players who rarely change strings themselves, might return it. There's multiple brands out there in the $500-600 range. That I'd buy before paying that much just to have Fender on the headstock. Fender is rapidly falling to the wayside. They're generally asking $200-300 more for an equivalent model. Just to have possibly worse QC? No thanks.
