One thing I have learned when buying a house with a garden: wait a full season before digging anything up. Sometimes things don't show up till later and if you dig up too much too soon, you might dig up a perennial that comes up later in the spring/summer. You will have to have patience but it's worth the wait just so you don't dig up something you may want to keep.

True, we purchased an 1897 Victorian and right away my husband starting digging not knowing what he was removing. We noticed several years later, a bunch of peonies started popping up as the roots were not damaged in (all) different colors some white, cream, and a candy cotton pink. Now, every spring I let him know "hands off" the peonies!

Start collecting all the rainwater off both roofs and use some simple filters. If you keep the tanks as high as possible in dark containers it will feed your kitchen and sink. You could use it for washing and after treatment for cooking and drinking. Go for a simple dry earth toilet inside or in a shed extension outside and compost your waste for the garden. Looks lovely as it is and I love your excitement and enthusiasm.

1. Get the water and bathroom done first. 2. Fix it up to your liking . 3.Dont dig up anything in the garden wait a year but you can still clean it up a bit. 4. In the future if you have the extra funds, you can built a second floor just and that can be the bedroom area. This way you van make a bigger bathroom and the kitchen dining area can come together. Wish you thr best. Congratulations!!!

All great ideas but my understanding that this type of building is more of a summer house with a garden/allotment meant for getaways rather than intended as a permanent dwelling. They were largely built with no access to a mains water supply so that type of work may not be permissable or the cost of having pipes laid and connected to the nearest mains water and sewerage supply, which could actually be miles away, would be astronomical!

Hi Elise, at 2:05 in the video, that squatty fat plant in the corner is rhubarb. The other little plant across from the rhubarb looks like Basil. At 2:18, the first light green plant looks like Parsley. Right next to the Parsley looks like Chives. Across from the Parsley looks like Lavender. Right next to the Lavender looks like Mint and then more Lavender at the end. At 2:24, it looks like Potatoes. At 3:42, it is definitely an Apple tree. At 3:54, it is Lilac. At 5:43 is your woodburning stove, which should do a great job of heating your new home (there's nothing more awesome than wood heat). Very cute home and I'm excited to see what improvements you're going to make. Congratulations of becoming a property owner. Love and light to you!
