I don't like the lights either, look like Frog eyes. Nice find. Outrage has higher gunwales than the Montauk, more offshore capability.

Great decision on the cup /rod holder you get to have both this way and can use in other places at a much less invasive solution to the boat /pockets

Awesome. Can't wait to see the progress. Great to see an old whaler rescued like this and 100% get rid of those docking lights they are so ugly.

I really want to go into the Boston Whaler business. Seriously. That's got to be a 50 MPH boat. I like the Newport, The Revenge and The Montauk.

A small tip.... you might want your console side door to open towards the rear, its the natural way to open as the boat is slightly tilted up when sitting in the water. this way youll have to fight the door to keep it open.

Between the montauk 17 and 18 outrage which is great for off shore fishing and choppy waters

The Outage 18 is definitely better for that vs the Montauk 17

I look forward to this new project of yours. I'm in Ft. Laud and my first Whaler was a 13.3 when I was 12yrs old. Had to read the Seamanship book twice ,before I was allowed to solo. Are you going to put the two batteries in the console ?

What did something like that cost you to purchase bare bones?
@LazyLocations

Bare bones? If you mean totally basic and without an engine then it would cost about $8k-$10k. With an old engine about $15k-$20k. With a new engine around $30k-$35k.

This article I wrote summarizes the difference between the two boats among the other ones I wrote about as well

The best advice I can offer is to check out "Everything Boston Whaler" on FB or Instagram. They have lots of "how to" videos and advice for all the Classic Whalers

There are NO stringers under the floor of a whaler. Once the floor is removed, it is only foam under there. You have to remove the foam, and replace. Might be a good idea to price it out to a reputable boat builder.
