The format was invented by a late friend of mine, Rune Ericson. In the early days one had to be careful that the lab didn’t scratch the extended part of the image but by now I imagine all have had the rollers updated. Great format for 16x9 even though that standard wouldn’t exist for another 20+ years!

*Hello Fellow Brother in Christ. I pray you will receive an Arriflex 416 Super 16 mm camera. This was the very last in a series of studio production Super 16 mm motion picture cameras made by Arriflex before they ceased all further production and development of 16 mm based motion picture cameras. This camera could use allot of 35 mm lenses and accessories interchangably with the Arri 435 35 mm motion picture camera. The 416 was noiseless running, self blimped, computer controlled with built in color video tap and speed regulation. This was the only 16 mm motion picture camera which produced images on 16 mm negative which actually approached 35 mm quality. This was especially true if you used Eastman 5245 ASA 50 Daylight negative film in it. The SR 2 Super 16 is a great production camera, and many network TV series were shot on this camera. The SR 3 was even quieter and many wildlife series were shot on the HS (High Speed) version of this camera along with specially configured 800 foot super magazines lubricated to run in minus 40 plus degree Farenhieght temperatures. A famous Academy Award winning wildlife feature epic film on Emperor Penguins was shot on the SR3 version of this camera.*

@@nkosiroma Yes, the K-3 can produce great, pro level results. Due to its limitations, it's very hard to film dialog. My idea is doing a digital mockup first, edit it until I'm happy with it and then shoot the same thing on locatiuon and on film. This way you only shoot what you need, since the final edit already exists. This on the othyer hand doesn't allow for improvisation. I still think the digital mockup is the best choice when on a very tight budget.

Amazing video with some beautiful cinematography. Subbed instantly. One question: What kind of texture effect is it used on some elements in the intro (for example 15sec and 28sec). it looks like a very clean and satisfying 4K capture of an old analog TV. If been looking for a plug-in that achieves this effect for ages but nothing looked as good as these shots. Or did you literally film an old TV in 4k?

Unbelievably happy for you. I'm in a very similar situation at the moment; I've been shooting for 20 years and I feel I'm at at the point where if I don't make the permanent switch over to film I'm going to lose interest in the medium completely. I haven't yet made the jump but I'm definitely decided on super 16 as it's by far always been my favorite format. Settling on a body, constantly buying film stock and processing doesn't worry me so much as investing in lenses that I can afford but still feel good about. I've done it several times in the past on a budget and it's always been super tricky. Are you looking into eventually adding any primes to your setup/package? Cheers!

If you’re right up to the subject you’ll hear it, but if you’re at a normal distance it shouldn’t be too noticeable. I haven’t had much experience with sound and film yet, but I will absolutely share my thoughts when I can make an on set BTS style video.

I don’t think you mentioned it (maybe I missed it), but how much did the camera cost you?

Do you prefer Variabl ND Filter for ä Mattebox like Polar Pro, or normal ND slide in Filters?

I prefer normal nds for ease of calculating the stop loss. Just more consistent!
