I love the Rough Rider, I mostly get the canoe, and I have the small canoe, in my pocket for any Amazon pkg. And I get a lot of packages .

I’ve enjoyed most of the rough ryders, I have had a few duds (but what can you really expect for 10-15$) but it’s a cheap way of trying new traditional patterns without paying a whole lot. Some of them are pretty nice

I agree. I saved a lot of money trying cheapo trappers and several other patterns that I decided that I didn’t like.

I think you picked some great knives! What other brand offers that selection and quality of knives for that price?! Only Rough Ryder

That’s a pretty impressive showcase of RRs! It’s really like a “best of” selection in one order. Nice pull on the swayback trapper, the one I got was junk. On the other hand, my denim work knife is every bit as nice as any Rough Ryder Reserves I’ve gotten. Super impressive company over all. They offer so much for literally pennies!

I’m so glad you showed that Artisanwood knife and I didn’t know they made that one. I immediately went to Amazon and bought the Trapper style. Thanks for showing that one I am a Rough Rider collector

The variety of RR is great. I favor the two bladed Bow trapper. But my most recent RR is the RRR007 Nomad.

Not sure it's worth mentioning, since it looks so nice, but I think the rams horn is bone,jigged to look similar. They're not trying to hide it, as it says on the box, rams horn bone. The horn is more translucent

Ive been on the fence in regards to these RR tradionals, ive been worried about quality as they're so inexpensive. Well with the comtent ive been seeing on KZitem (this video included) im thinking RR and the people over at Smokey Mountain seem to be doing a better job than Case! I really dont think anyone would disagree Case has lost any and all interest in listening to they're customers when they complain about quality control. These days now more than ever every penny counts, and people are going to want quality and a reasonable price tag. RR is bringing the heat, watch your ass Case lol

RR is making a very nice looking knife and they seem to be built very good. and they don't feel cheap in the hand. I don't know how they are selling them as cheap as they are. But I am glad they do. I been buying up some to have and so far I have not got a bad knife yet.

My original black bow Trapper was advertised as having T10 steel but it's definitely not carbon steel. (I talked to Andy on a livestream & he confirmed they requested it be T10, but they got 440a on the first run.) I put the blade in saltwater vinegar for 24 hours with no patina. They should have the black bow Trapper in carbon, and the red bow Trapper in stainless steel. I learned from that test 440a is incredibly stainless compared to carbon steel.

I bought a handful and some where OK, a few were duds, and I ultimately found them unsatisfying. If you just need a beater knife, you can’t argue with the value proposition though.

I live in Canada and have a small obsession with Rough Ryders. Every single time I order from SMKW, it cost me well over $100 for 4 or 5 of them. Usually with shipping, around $130 or so. Well worth it to me though for the quality and variety. I can’t imagine what a few GEC’s would cost to get to me.

I’ve been considering the carbon half hawk. I couldn’t tell from the video, how deep does the tip set in the frame on yours?
@jimmyj4811

I've got two, and the tips sit deep enough where you won't get cut. However, both knives have the blades hard against the liners on one side.

Come on! Open that box up! Lol. The half hawk is a beauty. Those clip slips are awesome, wish they sold them separately. Nice bone covers on the carnivore. The artisan wood covers are beautiful - I think the name is awkward or they’d sell better. How about Irish burl? Mossy burl? Something foresty. Love my work knife. Dig the big Barlow, beautiful covers. Love my bow trapper, too. Beautiful copperhead. I think that’s $127 well spent.

It would be great if Rough Ryder set up a custom shop where you could order any of their patterns with any of their scale materials and a choice of several steels for each blade and a choice of nickel steel, brass or solid silver for bolsters and linings etc. It would be great fun designing your own. I might start with a Sunfish in Artisan Wood with T10 blades.😁
@KnifeThoughts

Iirc the original bow trapper was supposed to be in T10, but they just didn’t use it and it was 440 instead lol I believe the new ones are T10. I like the pattern a lot, but it’s a little thick behind the edge.

I'm really tired of over packaging. I like the older Rough Ryder boxes before the magnets. They basically fit the knife. Did they make as nice a box for presentation? No but what the knife is presented, what's the point of all that box. Rumor has it, the Big R is going to be less frequent in the future. I'm hoping that is true! The little leather sheath for the Carnivore Jack is similar to the one that came with the Dog Bone! I'm might pick it up. Oh wait...Big R. Maybe not! Really nice selection!
