My great-grandpa (he would be like 130 years old now if he were still alive) LOVED Cadillac. The story goes that, in the early 50s, great-grandpa loaded up the family into his Cadillac and drove all the way from New York to Benson, Arizona. Great-grandpa was the best! My mom also loved Cadillac and we had a few growing up. I learned to drive in a Cadillac. As such, Cadillac will always have a special place in my heart. This video fills my heart with feels.

Nice trip man; a few years ago I bought a 1970 Dodge Charger out of British Columbia Canada, and drove it some 3000 miles home to Pittsburgh PA. Only problem was it needed a new alternator about half way through. My thinking was, no matter how far I make it, if it breaks down and I cant fix it, its now that much closer to home and shipping will be cheaper, lol.

That's a nice Eldo! Just my 2 cents- throw a recurve on the HEI. Run a free flowing air filter element. Dump a can of BG brand cleaner in the tank every 3 months. Make certain that your tire pressure is optimal. The more ya drive it, the more limber it'll become... The piston rings in an old engine will stick if you don't run em frequently. You noticed your mileage improving as the trip progressed? That recurve should get you about 16-20 mpg. on the highway, maybe 12 or so in town. God Bless! S

The seats were like an awesome sofa and the carpets were thick. The car was luxury at GM’s best. When the 80s models came out they were still awesome and when I turned 16 I drove a brand new one with the carriage top and wire wheels and it really left a big impression on me. They killed the brand in the 90s for me. You should keep the car. It is awesome. Great video. I have owned about 16 of the late 60s and 70s cadillacs up to the 1979 all devilles full size and one 69 eldorado.. Heres a uick fix to where had I been riding with you , you would have gotten 18 MPG. All of those rochestor quadrajet were great but had two defects. First one was the chokes only partially opened and stayed almost closed, so the solution was to zip tie them completely open. Next isse is the floats would not completely close and gasoline would constantly over flow into the intakes on these, so the solution was to take a test light and push the metal tip gently on top of the float from the nose vent breathers these carburetors had and push the float up and down to free it. These two fixes all of my 500 and 472 and 425 V8 cadillacs easily got at least 18 MPG on the highway

A light for good fuel economy? We had a '76 Mercury Grand Marquis around the time I got my driver's license. There was no "good fuel economy" light in that car, because on a really good day it might get 12 mpg. But it did have a "low fuel economy" light that would come on any time you gave it more than a quarter throttle.
@Blogengezer
5 жыл бұрын
-Those lights were only indicating vacuum sensors. Opening throttle, lowers intake manifold vacuum under load. Keep vacuum higher, minimally opening throttle, while moving along in high gear on flat highways, with no headwind, and vacuum is higher, light turns green [on those equipped]. At least that was the theory.. :) Radial tires with higher pressure, worked magic, especially on Lincoln Continentals that cruised at 1,500 rpm.... all day long..

1976 Eldo is my dream car. I had a 1972 Coupe De Ville that I bought when I was in the Navy, I was 19. I saw it for sale and knocked on the door and the woman sold it to me for $400.00. It was mint, but the paint was faded badly. So, I took it to Earl Schieb and got the "deluxe" $99.00 paint job. My uncle had that same car, 1976 El-Dorado, Red with the white interior. He put over 125k on it and it was like new. In 1982 he got sideswiped by a NYC bus, and they paid him $3,400.00 and let him keep the car. He went to a shop and they replaced the door and the quarter panel and a paint job for $1,200. He pocketed the extra money and a week later the car was stolen, never recovered. He still had a photo of it in his living room 20 years later.

Ethanol in the fuel? Takes a lot of corn to feed US cars today at 10% corn ethanol. If it is so marvelous, interesting that the tractors that farm the corn, trucks, massive trains that deliver the fuel, all use diesel [can not pipe ethanol, reason for Warren Buffett to own those trains, ....while proclaiming ethanol is wonderful:).. even the heat energy to process the corn is hydrocarbon. Lots of hydrocarbons consumed, just to produce ethanol. US, regular fuel locally today is $2.29 US dollars .....per gallon.

You got 'dummy' lights...if they light up when you turn the ignition to the 'on' position, they should work when the engine is working. If the temp sensor is working, if it overheats, the temp 'dummy; light will come on.

In the mid to late ‘70s they gave us DUMMY LIGHTS in place of gauges, a bit booboo on their part. You have telescopic stirring wheel. Slide that lever over and pull toward you or push inward. You most likely have tilt wheel as well. You should have a thermostat for your AC. Or just turn it off for short time while sitting in stopped traffic. 12 miles per gallon in city is about right, 16 or so on the freeway. Yes, all of your dummy lights should come on as you start the car. She’s really a beautiful car. Those were very popular in the ‘70s

I had a 2004 DeVille like that sweet old lady. I was 18 or so at the time. Needless to say, everyone made fun - but there’s nothing like a Cadillac.

Nice land yacht man. I'd follow the car. My wifes 1st car had the same filler neck and gas would spit out of it from every stop light. Does it run rich? Hope to see it cruising around WMd.

You forget that while Hoovie may buy the cheapest cars, he has the Wizard fix them before he sells them.

It was cool seeing you drive from the town I spent a lot of years and summers in. You took Old 50 out of Newton - that’s risky. Enjoy your new whip...

I really hope you keep that dash intact. If anything, just get a radio that slides right in. Im not surprised that car didnt break down. Thats when cars were made quality, on every piece. My first car was a 1974 Chevrolet Impala. Two door as well, and i could drive forever in that thing. I went through 3 transmissions, but only because i hopped up the motor, and it was only a 3-speed TH350 to be exact. I had that car for years, and the South Texas salty air just ate away my Imp. Solid vehicles. Id keep her if i was you. She is mint!

My friend Bruce`s step dad had one of these. The AC blew ice cold, like a meat locker, It was a candy red with a white interior. It almost gave me double pneumonia.He kept it cherry, with a simonize every weekend. I wonder what became of that car, it sure made an impression on me.

Yup, 55mph and you would get 16mpg I bet. I always take more back roads it's a lot more exciting and 55-65,ph and great fuel economy in my F150 from CO to TN and back every year. Although for the first time I took the Interstate system back to CO and made it in 19 hours but it was boring and saved on not getting a Hotel in between. A big vehicle like that you just cruise the back roads
