I can confirm, this truck is absolutely stunning in person. It's bizarre to see a Dodge truck from this era that still has an interior and legible switches and knobs. The bed is also so clean it looks like no one even set as much as a cardboard box back there. It's truly incredible.

Not much reason not to! The R/T is a total parts-bin special of Dakota and Ram parts, so absolutely everything is available in massive quantity. You could refuse to put oil in your R/T, get a new engine everytime you blow one, and it'd still be cheaper per mile to service than a 911. Lol

Pristine interiors too, though in a decade they will be worth 30 grand even for a used one just like those old early 90s Ford and Chevy pickups today. When we got back the salesman met us outside and said “if you’re going to buy the truck you better say so now, because I’m about to ban you from this dealership for life”. I managed to look shocked and asked why...he said you’ve been gone for 5 minutes and we’ve had 3 calls. We left without saying another word. I would drive it today if I still had it, those cushy bucket seats, cloud like ride, and pinky finger light steering meant it was the most cushy, leisurely driving car I had ever owned, and I've owned a Cadillac DeVille. I bought one new in 98 .. it broke a leaf spring on the freeway and the insurance company totaled it.. they said the truck was stated to have an over rated tow capacity and that several people towing trailers had lost horses and people had died as a result. I was so pissed off because i loved that truck. Mine was an extended cab with the red lettering. I had hella custom mods done to it .. but they paid me out.

Btw , they look hella good slammed with dual hood scoops and a bed cover.. which mine had .. these trucks handled so good and they were pretty fast for the power to weight ratio

That is a damn nice Dakota, coming from a dealer! I would definitely bedline that not the rubber stuff but the actual good hard liner. If I was hoovies I would keep it up to 50,000 miles and then resell it and you would still make your money back! I'm a dealer in Texas and there is no hope for any Dakota out here in Texas, they have all been beat to crap. That is an exemplary find! The only way I can sell Dakota's are if I lift them and put big all-terrain tires on them. For the pure nostalgia of it this makes me jealous.

My experience with Dodge was that they made inferior trucks. Ford 150's were always sought after, the Silverados next and if you really wanted cheap, then buy a Dodge. Watch the heater quit in 2 years, the driver's arm rest break off, the wiper motors quit, just dumb stuff.

No, it's fine. The R/T got the heavy duty 46RE transmission which was used behind the 5.9 all the way up to the Ram 3500. It's based on the old 727 Torqueflite which used to be spec'd only in the big-block cars during the muscle car era. Small blocks, including hot 300hp+ 340 cars got the 904 which is what non-R/T Dakota transmissions are based on. The R/T is so light and so grip-limited by comparison to the big Rams, it's pretty difficult to hurt the transmission with abuse. What they don't tolerate is having the same fluid for 150k miles and then getting flushed at Jiffy Lube with super cheap DexMerc ATF which isn't compatible. That's what killed all these transmissions. The 46RE in my R/T has 170,000 miles and has performed exactly the same every day for the 10 years I've owned it. The real problem with the transmission in the R/T is that it's completely stupid about shift logic and it has a monstrous amount of parasitic losses. R/Ts make 250hp crank but like 190 at the wheels because the trans is just that inefficient. As long as Hoovie uses ATF+4 fluid in this truck, he should have no problems with his transmission. If there's any vehicle in the world that I'd trust to take a neutral-drop, it's a Dakota R/T on bad tires.

Rowing Machine, Hoovie don't give up on that. Back in 2017 I was 308 Pounds and 5'9" Tall. My Dr. Pissed me off and I said I would loose 100lbs in a year. I didn't, I lost 103 pounds then kept going all the way down to a final weight of 164lbs! Almost half the man I used to be. Up to 176 right now but have maintained it since 2019 when I hit my final goal. Counted calories to a dangerous level, and used a Rowing Machine almost every day religiously. Only piece of exercise equipment I kept and replaced with a better model. 37 years old now was worth the 20+ months of sacrifice ;-)

Nice Truck.. I have a 99 RT ... body off Resto done.. now we are finishing the engine.. Stroked 5.9 to 408 CI...computer modeling on the build Suggests 625 HP with 550 FT LBS of torque... Everything in the engine has been heavily modified to ...Heads flow over 310 CFM NHRA SS heads .. We also went with an LD 340 Single plane intake and port matched it.. Yes I know the LD. is for an LA Engine.. we had to re drill out the bolt holes and use Epoxy to make them fit right... Everything is trick... 3 years in the making...Hopefully I don't blow it up...gonna set the rev limiter to 6500 RPM .. cheers... I did the same with my bow flex...lol
