Remind me of the E21 and early 2 door E30’s these. Proportions and drivetrain config etc. I reckon a Coupe with the 3.0 NA with manual box is a close modern take on the old 323i/325i. Can’t believe they put the turbo six in these too, they must be mental…

Might just be me, but 4-pot diesels just don't do it for me in what should be a fairly fun car - they just have no excitement in the sound that would encourage you to want to enjoy it... In that sense, comfort of the standard pack instead of the msport makes total sense to me here. As you seem to really like a respectably quick small diesel car, it'd be interesting to see you get hold of a Volvo C30 with the D5 engine... The extra cylinder makes a big difference even in sound even though there's only a bit more BHP and torque than this has.

For a while I wondered why all cars didn’t just use a simple timing chain. Why do we still have manufacturers using a belt to drive the engine. Now having seen all these videos from different channels and also having spent some time dabbling in this trade, I now think the opposite. Cam belt is a few hundred quid and usually easy enough for most mechanics and when it’s done, it’s usually the last you’ll have to deal with it for a long time whereas a timing chain can cost anywhere from £500 up when they go wrong. Just a thought!
@deanodrives4966
Жыл бұрын
@Dane Cowan the older bmw engines are chain driven and they don't have any problems. If you look at the m47 that was the 2.0 diesel before this generation of car they were bullet proof when it came to their chains. As manufacturers tightened up their building processes we started getting problems
@craiggodwin5960
Жыл бұрын
I've had a few 2.0d bmws and have had no issues with the chains at all, I just have an oil service with fully synthetic oil every 6000 miles My dad and nephew are both mechanics and reckon most of the chain issues are caused by people not serving them or putting cheap shitty oil in them
@danecowan678
Жыл бұрын
@@craiggodwin5960 Yeah they’re probably right. To be honest id rather buy a car that has been serviced regularly regardless of the quality/brand of the oil used than one that’s been neglected. More people than you think just don’t bother with it. All we can do is continue to maintain our cars fastidiously and have the pride of knowing we look after what we drive 😁 Probably why my 66 plate Passat is now on 165k 😎

Timing chains go bad on these and requires engine removal as there positioned at the rear of the engine (( planned obsolescence IMO also earlier engines had a weak mitshubish turbocharger and suffer from turbo rattle.
