A thin wooden veneer pickguard would be pretty cool, I saw a guy make one out of mahogany then he put several coats of clear coat. With that Pelham blue that would look awesome, just a thought....nice job my friend!

Really enjoyed this 2 part build. Attention to detail and sand sand sand, but we both know. The result is only as good as the preparation and your prep is top notch KB. Great relic techniques, thanks, just added a few to my book of favorites. Never really was keen on this body shape. But, your build has given me a new appreciation and I think it looks absolutely wicked! Love the cts pots, and the oil filled cap, switch craft jack. Can't go wrong with what works so well. Sounds excellent, and looks like it is easy play. The name of this build should be Krelic Master as it is a heavy relic Jazz Master design made by Kris Barocsi. Don't be humble, Krelic Master is definitely worth being on a Barocsi custom. After thoughts, Krelicaster or Relicaster have a nice ring to them. You are donating it for the cause. Sounds cool KB, cheers!

Hey Dave, I really appreciate your words! ☺️ My feelings for offset guitars are strange. 😅 I was never into the traditional ones but I really like the takes some brands have on them. Like my PJD St John. What a guitar! And this one too actually. Smaller body (I like that), tune-o-matic bridge and the toggle switch. 👌 That’s right up my alley. Cheers mate!

Whenever I paint bodies with nitro I always go through the clear coat into the colour even with 2000 grit but the time I’ve got the orange peel out. I’m thinking of doing with steel wool next time but will take hours for sure
@KrisBarocsi
2 жыл бұрын
Two tips: 1. sand between all the layers and keep the surface always orange peel free, that helps at the end. 2. Try more layers of clear coat at the end. You’ll send off most of it anyways when you’re buffing so you won’t end up with a thick finish (if that’s what stops you from putting more layers on there). Have fun experimenting with it man!

I have mixed emotions about relic jobs, but it doesn't bother me as much on a DIY as it does on brand-new production line guitars with marked-up price tags. I guess I kind of feel like it's the player's job to put the wear-and-tear on a guitar, anyway, so it's not as big a deal to me. In any case, you did a convincing job, and as long as YOU love it, that's all that matters.

You must call this the baroque-caster. "Baroque" is pronounced like the first half of Barosci, and baroque refers to 17th/18th century art/architecture characterized by ornate detail, similar to this guitar. You could also spell it Baro-caster for your last name, but still pronounce it similar to baroque caster since that's how your last name sounds anyways. (So: buh-row-caster). That pronunciation sounds less like "broke caster" which is how baroque-caster might sound lol. Either way it has the double meaning of a baroque style parts caster built by Barosci.

Going through the process gives insight what is involved in building a guitar and why some choices are made. Imagine building a guitar from scratch, with only pieces of raw wood! That would easily double your build time. Diy build Is also good for realising and appreciating the skills involved with ready made guitars like Harley Benton or Vintage at an affordable price. Have you calculated what your hour salary would have been for this project? Looking back, would you say the hidden cost factor is paint? Great work! Funnily I also did the JA kit in Pelham Blue. Some tips for the weather checking. Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the guitar first and then shoot it with the cold spray. Nitro checks because of harsh temperature changes. So heating it up and then cooling it drastically brings the best results. Second tip: cold spray is quite expensive. You can use canned air and shoot it with the can upside down. Same effect. And a minor correction: there are no ground loops in guitars with passive electronics as there is just one ground (the output jack). But the idea of using copper tape as ground wire is a great one!
