I think the move away from sports watches is long overdue, I stopped watching reviews on dive watches 2yrs ago. I'm definitely not a Rolex fan but I think their 1908 is brilliant and has replaced the Explorer as my favourite from that brand. My favourite watch this year so far is the IWC portugueser chrono. I'm pleased to see you all had a great time over there.

Thank you! I happened into my local dealer and checked out their Tag Heuer beauties. I asked the guy what kind of movement it housed. He told me, “It’s an in-house movement.” I flipped it over, looked at it, and said, “oh, that looks like 2824 architecture.” He looked it up in their sales guide and, what do you know?! It’s based on the 2824. $3300 for a 2824 powered watch? Those Bremonts were sexy! Especially liked the look of that cushion case Terra Nova!

Thanks for taking us through. I probably couldn’t afford the coffee and chocolate they were handing out for free let alone any of the watches there, but as someone who appreciates horology, it’s good to know how the other half, or more like the tiny .1% live. Cheers!

Russ, you have a better chance of winning the Wimbledon singles title than getting the brands to not allow the press to release the news of the new offerings before the public can get in. This is marketing - they wouldn’t spend hundreds of thousands otherwise. Going to W&W next yr because my Tudor AD told me we customers will be able to tour the Tudor factory next yr. Should be quite a week. And I woke up at midnight to see their new releases and immediately got on the BB GMT Coke list. Can’t wait.

The new Tag Heuer Monaco split second chrono looks insane, 4 pieces of sapphire crystal, parts of the watch take 30 hours to make, that movement is mind blowing as well. Yes it costs a fortune, but as a fan of the brand, i appreciate the fact that they just went ahead and made them.

Great review of the show. I wish I shared your optimistic take on Bremont. I snatched up an S302 after I saw what was coming with the new range. Time will tell is right but I fear the new direction has lost a lot of what made Bremont appealing.

A micro brand watches and wonders and more affordable staple brands the average joe could afford would be cool. Micro's like Brew, Signum, Zolos, Islander,Lorier(not sure if there a micro) Mondaine ect. And of course a few staples such as Citizen, Seiko, Bulova, Casio. That average joes could go to just to walk around would be cool as hell.

I believe this was the case mostly for Rolex and Tudor who did not even allow to do hands on with the watches. Other brands were more or less available with little to none waiting and they often allowed to register for small group hands on sessions. Some brands even took a private session with you if asked nicely.

If I was going I'd specifically order a Casio F-91W to wear just to be 'that guy' wearing a twenty dollar plastic fantastic thing amongst all the baller pieces on display and having to listen to the brands being full of themselves on their precious metals and crazy movements. Does this mean I don't get haute horology or that I most definitely do?

Good honest summary Russell. Given the choice of W&W or Dubai Watch week I'd definitely choose the latter as you can actually feel the watches there.
