Curious where in the world this project is with a habitable structure with no footing/basement but in a climate that looks like it would have frost zone and setting a septic system with an after-installation inspection, all in wetlands and immediately adjacent to a swamp.
@SimpleLivingwithBiata
Жыл бұрын
Great question haha! So we’re 110 fr back from the wetlands with a 17’ elevation! It would have to flood 1500ft of municipally maintained roads to hit our house. It would be a Noah’s ark flood that would effect all the homes in the area haha. And a simple fix is to break the beaver dam if it ever gets too high 😁! We can go with a monolithic slab as long as there’s in floor heating. So it heats under and around the slab. And we’re heaving with a wood boiler to heat our slab!
@SimpleLivingwithBiata

And the wetlands aren’t environmentally protected! The septic only has to be 5m away but it’s 120 ft away (I forgot what that is in metres!)

The septic system install is almost as much work as building the whole house and a greater need for machine assistance. Great to see the working relationship with Craig. It seems much of your great attitude comes from him, Biata. His excavator skills saved your family a ton of money. Always amazed at your work ethic and your determination. The tame deer in many videos is incredible . You alluded to fencing once your home is completed and if you plan any gardening that will be necessary. Your daughter is adorable and willing to pitch in to help you with the raking. Hoping you didn't miss any essential utility leads in your footing. Craig seems to be a great second over viewer which is handy to have. Filming of each episode is perfect and shows every step in the many processes in building your home. 👍👍✌✌✌👍

Haven’t seen a septic system set up like this. Where I am it’s 400’ of leach line. Tank gets a tar or sealer of some kind on all sides and is bedded in with gravel. Not dirt. Too simple where you are. 😊
@SimpleLivingwithBiata
Жыл бұрын
Very interesting! Yah so Under the pipes is specific septic sand, and then 6” of gravel. And then on top is sand. And all around the bed is pre existing mantle because it’s T15 soil! We lucked out in not having to bring in extra soil!

Well you can hit a high water table on the top of a mountain too.Where your building I knew it was inevitable you would hit water at 4 to 6foot or less🌞Its to bad you just couldn't put in a gravity system.Alot cheaper an no electric pumps an float an high alarm switches😵

Hi there! So this build was lead by Craig who was a septic installer for 20+ years! So when I did all the organizing and ordering I based it off the plans we got from a septic designer and I called Craig about other questions! Other things I’ve done (electrical, plumbing etc) I’m often running into a new or old friend who knows how to do it and let’s me ask them loads of questions to learn. I’ve been so thankful 💛

Hi Kevin! It’s a bit deceiving but the tank is 120 ft back with a 17’ elevation from the wetlands! It would have to flood 1000ft of municipal maintained roads to get where the build site is! And we can break the beaver dam if it gets concerning :)
