Indeed , I have been dying to see the milky way with my naked eyes since i started watching Alyn wallace's vlogs. it must have been so blissful to stand under the light of the our galaxy. I have listened that the milky way shines so bright that it may cast some shadows of us too (with no moon ) aaaahhh its so beautiful to imagine this. love from India

Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I have shot the Milky Way core a number of times in single exposures. You have motivated me to shoot a set of exposures for stacking. Now is the perfect time as the core is well placed to the south at my location in the mountains of Colorado, USA. Looking forward to your next video to hopefully explain combining a foreground with a stack.

Quick note for any begginers watching: you'll never find a Bortle 0 or Bortle 10 area, because those would be respectively absolutely dark and absolutely light-polluted, theoretically. Hence the Bortle Scale normally ranges from 1 to 9, the "closer" to 0 the better.

Helena, I’ve been following Astrobiscuit, Astrobackyard Nebula Photo and not in the least but yours. After waiting for months to see if I could find a visual scope that we have room to store i decided to get a dslr and start capturing. I’ve done a fair amount of photography years ago and all manual but some of the differences are simple but baffling. The hook and weights is the perfect example. I was always shooting sports and fast paced action in the past so I was looking for heavy expensive tripods to solve the stability problem but since I’m trying to stay within a 1 tripod and 1 camera bag limit, your suggestion was perfect! Thanks so much for sharing what you love with us and inspiring people to think.

I have the 60Da and the EOS Ra. I love them both. I have a Red Cat 51 with a Orion Sirius EQ5. I also have the Sky watcher Sky Adventurer. In my back yard I use a 2 inch dual band Optalong L Extreme filter. Up at Mt Rainier, Washington State It is a bortle 3 so I don’t need the filter. I have fun with my fellow Tacoma Astronomical Society friends doing Astrophotography. We also teach at local colleges and host local Star parties. What a great hobby to spread to the public. Keep it up. We live on a great planet to see the night sky.

Hi Brian! My image shown in the video was actually taken tracked with the Skywatcher Star Adventurer. However, untracked, if you are in a dark location you can afford to crank it to 1600-3200. If you are in a light polluted area try between 400-800.

@HelenasAstrophotography
2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, the lenses you have described are bordering focal lengths of telescopes which would be too zoomed in to see the full Milky Way (more so objects within it) as well as the eyepieces which would be attached to a scope that would zoom too far in. I would recommend that you look into something like the Samyang 14mm that I referred to in the video as well as a relatively cheap DSLR and tripod to get you started. However, if you want to see objects within the Milky Way the lenses you have described would be ideal attached to a camera and star tracker (more so the 360mm so it isn't breaching payload capacity).

Amazing thanks Helena. Question - I got my location sorted in PhotoPills but it’s not showing the dots for the Milky Way. Does this need to be enabled / turned on somewhere in the app?
@HelenasAstrophotography
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Luke! Mine was turned on automatically, but on the planner screen if you go down to the bottom right you should see a white circle 'plus' sign. Next to that is another white circle with layer icons. Click that and click 'Milky Way' so that the eye is illuminated next to it! Another option is that you may be looking at the map when the time is set to 'day-time'. Using the slider at the bottom assure that you are at around 00:00 in order for the Milky Way to appear. Hope this helps!
