All you do is hate and cry. 😵💫 It has to have the sad bits so that Dumbo's reward has real meaning. He's bullied and mocked because most children who see the movie have experienced that. It makes him a sympathetic hero.

people like you drag absolutely everything lmao. you're saying it has to be sad. okay? I was sad. correct? why does me doing that equate to not understanding what you're saying is the point of the movie?

I do not understand that on the Disney platform it appears that this movie has racist content from the 40s, when it is one of the cutest movies ever made XD

Please consider that the people calling this racist or saying that the crows were racist might be a bunch of dimwits. Consider: The crows were the smartest, the nicest, the wittiest characters in the movie. They helped Dumbo and then followed up on how he was doing. The best people in the movie.

Dumbo is a film that always leaves me in a mixed mood. On the one hand, very talented people worked on it. On the other hand, the studio cut corners with both time and budget *and it shows.* Some clever stuff is in there though. The film's writers deliberately wrote the clowns to not be funny. You can see it the most in their ego-trip scene where they're "gonna hit the big boss for a raise". There was a union strike happening at Disney in the months before Dumbo was released, and a myth that gets spread around is that some clowns were modeled after animators who joined the strike (i.e. strike leader Art Babbitt, who animated the Fantasia mushrooms). The stupid fucking kids who provoke Mrs. Jumbo and get her caged were giving me coronaries at the age of 5. It may have been my first experience being annoyed at teenagers. Piss on teenagers, they're evil. (< This is a joke ... but honestly you know who the evil adults are by the time they're a teen.) And we will ignore the crows. I had fun facts about the crows but don't worry about it.

whoa i know this is a old comment but a lot of context left out! disney lost a lot of money with fantasia and WW2 was just starting leaving out the european market and the economic crisis happening in the US. they had to save money and make a smaller budget film for a reason and it worked Dumbo saved the studio! this method would be used again with Lilo and stitch using water paint, rounder simpler designs. if anything dumbo perfectly reflects what was going on and is triumph in the face of struggle. if anything my mix emotions for the film is that it aged due to some uncomfortable racism. it could have been something that truly stood the test of time!

As a symbol of the perseverance of Disney artists, I agree with you. A valid argument can be made that they didn't "cut corners" so much as scale back their ambition and exercise a simpler approach. Simplicity is a virtue. For the careers of these artists (especially Fred Moore, Bill Tytla and Art Babbitt) it was what they needed to show their true range. Dumbo on its own merits, rather than as a symbol, is where I struggle. Snow White also gets put on a pedestal ... to a much greater extent ... for it symbolic achievement rather than its merits as an actual film. If Snow White gets an unconditional pass, and that's where animation fans set the bar, then any less production value should by the fans' own logic be treated like shit. But a fairer comparison for Dumbo is to Mickey Mouse shorts of the early 40s, which hit the same technical bar but content-wise they lack Dumbo's imagination / ingenuity. As I've said before, the strength of Dumbo is in the writing. It's no coincidence that it's the film where Bill Peet came to prominence in the story department ... and many Disney titles of the 50s and 60s follow the example of simplicity set by this film rather than jumping for the same ambition as Pinocchio or Bambi.

I do love this movie, but I acknowledge the fact that it's not for everyone. Because it's really sad and very mean spirited even if its balanced out with a character thats a mouse. Also alot of bad things happen to animals in this movie. Exspelly in a circus. The reason why she didn't like it. It wasn't necessary for technical reason. It's because she doesn't like how animals get treated in a circus and she didn't like the fact that the circus wasn't closed down for doing bad things to animals. So she didn't like the movie for personal reasons more than technical reasons. I didn't like kingsman The Secret Service because of one scene where a man projectile vomits. That kind of stuff ruins the whole movie for me no matter how technically good the film is. So yeah, I can see why she didn't like the movie. It's not a movie for everyone. Everyone gets bothered by different things in movies music etc. I think she mainly doesn't like how animals are treated in the circus. Things in movies that don't bother me might bother someone else. It all comes down to what you can handle or not handle. Or what movie you think is technically good or not.
