Get a “go bag” ready, everyone in the house, have one, packed and in the car, with your necessities. Take any family treasures to a friend or family member’s house. You don’t want to hear or feel the house beginning to break apart in the night, and have to make a run for it, leaving everything behind. Also, keep car keys and phone chargers by the front door, to just grab as you run out. I’m a native Floridian. I learned all this firsthand.

She lost her water heater, her furnace, her washer and dryer and a long list of things. And has watched as the sink hole has gotten bigger. But, finally the city has showed up to look at it. Finally.

I read many comments re filling the hole with huge boulders, gravel, concrete, etc. The weight and vibration of large trucks could cause nearby fragile areas to fail, plusthe movement caused by materialshifting once added to the void. I doubt many businesses would accept that job, especially since the house remains occupied. Liability insurance might be voided. Maybe the homeowner should consider contacting his homeowners insurance provider, state and local representatives, possibly an attorney, etc.

Underneath that home is a cave and there's really no telling what could give way next, including a portion from inside their home - while they are sleeping.
