Hi Paul just a tip, I would put bug mesh on the Inside and outside of your fan/vent. This make cleaning you fan in the future a hell of a lot easier! Trust me when you start cooking after a year or 2 you will have a banquet of dead I sects in your roof.

Paul, I'm curious. This might seem a silly question, but are there tool rental places in the UK, like there are here in the States? We have places like Rent-All where you can rent everything from a drill to a backhoe. Just wondering, because you'd have been better served by a pair of electric sheet metal shears as opposed to the jigsaw. Not that it didn't get the job done, but it might have gone a bit smoother. Good job as it was.

What thinners did you use to clean the van before fitting the frame? Avoid things like white spirit, as it still leaves an oily residue that needs to be removed with something like acetone, panel wipe or brake cleaner..... White spirit also dissolves sealants. Learned this when I resealed our old caravan... Coated the remains of old sealant with white spirit, it just rubs off, then remove and clean the surface with something like brake cleaner.

Good choice of fan Paul and fitted like a true professional. I had the Fiamma Turbovent in my old Motorhome and loved it. One tip I will give is to avoid driving with it open. I read that you can do this and as our old van had no air con we tried driving with it partly open but after hearing weird creaking noises from the lid decided it was best not to try again.
