Me too. But this campaign isn’t about power. It’s about infrastructure to file our rental nuclear subs, and ultimately to produce weapons. And it will cost 3-4 trillion dollars and be paid for thru higher electricity prices and higher tax rates. The net gain to the people is -5000 because once deployed we will be a prime target of multiple nations M.A.D programs, and our international credibility will be ruined as will our economy.

I live in Hong Kong where we get one third of our power from a Nuclear power station just 30km away. Does that count as “in our backyard”? I think so. And yet, this station, ,the Daya Bay Nuclear Power station, has been operating since 1994, and no-one, NOONE is bothered. “Am I bovvered? Am I bovvered?” NO!

For Australia to have a ban on nuclear power is absurd given that we have had a reactor at Lucas Heights for decades and we have signed up for nuclear submarines. The ban just needs to be lifted so we can have an honest discussion about options instead of blind faith in renewables which simply can’t provide enough base-load power now, let alone in a future that will require more power.

This policy is Soley setup to support the rental subs, ie to be able to make fuel for them, and ultimately to arm them with nuclear weapons. Also, these subs will not be able to engage in ANY activity without prior authorisation from the U.S. via the same daily code based system they employ with their flagship aircraft. Basically this policy is a gigantic LNP scam that will rob Australians of about 3-4 trillion dollars and double electricity bills and income taxes.

I would much rather a nuclear power plant that the entire landscape covered in windmills and panels. I think nuclear is an option that needs some serious investigation. There is nothing wrong with have a mix of solar and wind along with nuclear, but nuclear offers a base power without the need for excessive energy storage systems. Although more expensive modular reactors can be viable where the cost of running long distance transmission lines is not economical. In some remote regions the more expensive modular may be a better economic choice over the cost of transmission lines. > To use the argument that nuclear is a danger to the ecosystem is irrational when we consider the environment damage being caused by the so called renewables push.

The issue is that solar and wind are shit loads cheaper and deliver more energy per input dollar, and thus it’s far more profitable. That, and this lnp push for nuclear is a 3-4 trillion dollar 50 year plan to enable them to fuel their rental subs, and ultimately deploy nuclear weapons. It will be paid for by doubling electricity bills and the income tax rates. Also the subs will not be able to be used without daily codes provided by the US, so all operations including testing and training need prior approval from the U.S. first, just like with all the flagship aircraft they sell to allies.

How easy would it be to replace our coal fed power stations with nuclear reactors given that we would be able to leverage the poles and wires infrastructure as well as be able to employ much of the labour force that were originally working for the power station. A steam turbine is a steam turbine and it makes very little difference if the water to operate it is boiled by an emission free nuclear reactor or a filthy coal fire.
@jml24209
Күн бұрын
In theory pretty easy, in practice probably a lot harder than you think, now long do you think it would take to get the reglatory framework in place so that nuclear power could be an option? How about politicians agreeing to reverse the ban on domestic nuclear power production in parliment without having to agree to something truely outlandish? Not to mention importing the skill set and traning up the local population in order to manufacture, produce and and support a nuclear power program? We are going to have a hard enough time doing that with AUKUS. Then you have the problem of where to put it because NIMBY, it would be 2050 before you would even get an approval and then by that time that 8 or so billion dollar figure that they quoted is probably closer to 30 billion, and that's the quoted figure, reality says it's more likely to be 5 times that price. The ultimate goal of all this talk about nuclear is that the Liberals are not really interested in Nuclear at all, they have no intention of rolling it out, this is all a smokescreen to keeping the status quo and keap using coal as the primary source of power in this country. The sad thing is nuclear would have been a good option for australia, 40 years ago. The problem with it now is that it prohibitively expensive, you only have to look to US or UK with their latest builds, Vogtle 3 & 4 currently around US $17 Billion over budget and Hinkley Point C expected to go £28bn over budget.

This entire policy is NOT about power generation, it is about creating infrastructure to support the nuclear subs we are going to lease from the U.S, which will not be able to be used on any operation without US approval and the issuance of daily codes that we have to ask for. No nuclear industry equals no fuel for subs. This is going to cost 3-4 trillion dollars to achieve, and once constructed it will all be sold to mates of the LNP for $3.76. On the flip side, if the same cash was spent on renewables which are cheaper to build and opperate, all power bills for Australian residents would be $0 and we would be a net exporter of energy. Your campaign is all lies.

The biggest arguments against nuclear are its costs and the time frame to build them campared to wind and solar. Just to replace the 20 GW or so of coal fired power stations would require about 15 X 1.4 GW reactors. Dutton has stated that even if things went well the first reactor would not be completed until the 2040's. How many more years would it take to complete the other 14? Also the Nationals want a ban on new renewable projects. So that means, as far as I understand, that by 2050 Australia will have old renewable electricity generators, one or two nuclear plants and what else? I guess next they will propose that we need to build new coal and gas power stations to transition to nuclear. Unless you don't believe in the science of Climate Change!

@polarbear7255 you did not do your homework properly and only spread fake propaganda for political purposes. For your information, the half-life of cs137 is more than 30 to 70 years. The half life of Uranian is 4.5 billion years. That means the whole area will be contaminated for a very long time in case of an accident. The exposure to this radiation will create direct and future deaths. The direct deaths were 30. The long-term issues were not counted. M9stly cancer cases. Even they reactors were safe, they are not going to solve any of the power price issues because it resulted from the cost of distribution and not power generation. We have abundant free base power from Solar. But still the off-peak costs did not go to zero. They are 30 cents per KWH. The promise before the elections will not bring Dutton to be a PM. The recent article Dick Smith had on this channel was starting to sway my opinion on nuclear. The only long term issue is safety during tectonic events. In Australia we are generally stable, unlike Japan which is sitting on the Pacific plate subduction zone, however, given we will have a pole shift within the next 20 years it would be foolish to bother. Climate change is caused by the weakening magnetic field. This weakening is accelerating. Do your own research via Suspicious Observers YT channel. Just go coal and stop the distraction as we have very greater issues to plan for, not just Australians but every person on earth. Personally, I’m happy to pull the pin as I’ve lived my life and can’t stand what I see happening all around me.

The issue isn’t saftey it’s cost and purpose and ROI. This plan and campaign is designed to enable our rental nuclear subs to be filed and ultimately to enable the deployment of a nuclear deterrent. It’s a wolf in sheep’s cloths, likely partly seed funded by LNP ministers becuase they are corrupt. The subs won’t be able to be used for any operations including training unless approval is given and codes are issued by the U.S, just like with their flagship attack aircraft operated by allies. The cost of this program is 3-4 trillion and it will be funded by doubling your power bill and income tax.
