Hopefully these new clear belts will last longer than the pale yellow/tan ones that an old supplier used to offer. I noticed that the old ones would, if a set wasn't used regularly, start to keep their form if left for months/years in one position. Eventually they'd then stop to work completely because they will have taken on a new permanent shape and any pulleys, tensioners, shafts etc would just turn while the stiff & shaped repro belt sits there not moving.

The ones I replaced on my 9 tube shutterdial were about 10 years old, and were starting to bind up even when tuning. I couldn't really root cause why, but I'm thinking that you're correct about not retaining their flexability. The new ones (exactly the same one that went into the radio on the video), were just fine and worked fine with the manual and motorized tuning. I didn't play it every day, but didn't think this would have happened either.

I used belts from the same company in the 15-s-269 that I got from jd auctions. I believe it was from the same estate as your 12 tuber. The belts seemed a bit tight and I had similar symptoms. They have stretched out slightly over time from leaving it sit and work decent now.

Thanks for the information, and stopping by! I'm not sure when I could get back to it anyway, but I will follow it up.👍

I vote to try both. Oil the original motor, if it fails then go to the boneyard. Don’t worry about taking from a complete chassis. For my ‘48 Philco I bought a complete, probably working, chassis just for the dial pointer. Steve

Well.. I've got a week or two before I can get to it right now. I appreciate all the feedback. I've bought complete radios to get a part or two.. I'm guilty too....😁

Good job Bob. The motor for the robot tuner probably needs a little TLC too. It moves too much in and out and that can be the binding problem you are experiencing. It worked great one way but then it balked going back the other way.

Yeah, it's on my "to do" list. Got to move on to other things but it WILL get done.

Hi, thanks for the honest video, because thats the way things go for me. Is it possible that is why the belt was missing ? Could you please show the fix for that? You never know it might be a switch connection. Thanks again for sharing. Dean

The motor's tuning belt was "non-existant" in the radio. The motorized tuning motor likely is the culprit, needing servicing. We all know that "stuff" happens, and I'm not shy showing things that may happen. Thanks for stopping by!

I suspect the belts are putting too much tension on the mechanism causing it to bind.

I suppose that's a possibility, but I'm thinking it's the motor needing help. I do have the belt that was on my other radio and could try that first before taking out the motor. I'll probably address this sometime next week.
