this was awesome. scary when it needs to be on a supernatural and grounded level. not insanely overdone nor “too grounded”. best story i’ve heard since the one about the girl stuck in the school and the timeloop. beautiful.

This wasn't as scary as I expected, but the overall morality of it was so nice, I think it makes a nice change for the OP to have a selfless personality and have reason, fate is destined to happen after all, since if he could see the people, then down the line something would have happened, but since he couldn't, fate was already set for him, and he can't change it, like looking at a clock, you can't skip time, you just have to wait for the inevitable.

This story is very similar to another I've heard. Except there it's an inherent power a guy has, where people close to death become incorporeal to him. He becomes a doctor to make the most of it, then one day notices he can't touch anyone anymore, and he's writing to say that he doesn't know whether it's because he's about to die himself, or because something really bad is about to happen. I thought that was more effective, honestly. This story just lays it out flat and 90% of it would have been the same without the magical contacts.

Weird, I’m assuming the author is basing this off of how the American system works to get contacts (Please correct me if I’m wrong with this info) In my country, they only check your eyes ever 2 years (excluding specific degenerative disorders) even then, they don’t alway dilate your pupils when double checking your new prescription (and you can get contacts from any eye place, you just need to give them the contact specifications)
@histguy101
2 жыл бұрын
You're correct. In the US, you need an annual exam for contact lenses, and every 2 years for eyeglasses. They don't usually put the dilating drops in your eyes though, unless you request that kind of exam. I just order contacts from Britain, whether I have a current prescription or not. My prescription hasn't changed since I was a teenager

Why didn't he just drive a few states away and watch the meteor shower from somewhere safe? If the people there are also invisible, he could catch flight outta there. He could drive 100-200 miles in 2-3 hours. He's got from 5pm until 3am. That's 10 hours! If people are still invisible, he'll know that this is going to be a world catastrophe. What's a last minute plane ticket when your frickin life is on the line? Or he could just book a flight to Europe right away knowing already it will be a safe place. That's probably the best option, actually. He could even take his urn with him. Not the 6-pack though. That's not allowed on the plane. He'll have to either drink it first, or buy another one at his destination.

I been wearing glasses since elementary school and I don't remember if my vision is ever since the last appointment. I know it hasn't for the last few but it been longer than 13 years for me since I started wearing glasses. I do know my vision is worse in one eye than the other which is normal in those in my family that wears glasses. My grandpa use to keep all his glasses because his vision always changed. It could be worse one day and better the next. Fortunately loss of vision doesn't run in my family like loss of hearing for the men in my family.
