I’ve learned that with watercolors that have a lot of white in them (like your pastels) pre-wetting is definitely the key to getting the true color. Your lettering is so pretty.

The lighter first color swatch could be because sometimes the very top of a new paint pan needs a lot more work to activate and as you use it it gets easier. I don't remember the reason why. These are beautiful colors. Glad you're getting glasses... it has helped me so much. I'm also a mom and love art but was just busy with life and put vision off. But glasses have helped so much! Got larger lenses in a color I love because I wanted to like wearing them and not have the rims in my veiw as much.

I hope you got your glasses in! You should hand letter in - Roy G Biv - with these colors and the couple three colors you’ve shown in the beginning I believe. And a thicker oil but light pressure apply to a thick send off stroke of your pen! Your curvature is amazing in your style!

Swatching is a pain sometimes but also relaxing when you don't want to use your brain too much ( especially if you have it all set up and names written out etc) especially bc I'm very particular. Swatching your colors of pretty much anything in the way you will use the item is best bc it will show you how it will turn out. I know duh sounds obvious but I never wanted to take the time and when I have a new set of watercolors or just re-did a palette and have no clue what is where that swatch sheet makes a huge difference. Anyway thanks for sharing! Have a great day

I've had glasses since middle school, so the eye doctor has been an annual thing for me since then (except during the shutdown, LOL). Thank you for this video! It's so informational to see that the watercolors looked so different when you did the lettering vs. swatches!

I am SO glad to see you back! I have missed your videos so much!. I think this is a great way to swatch colors. I think I will write the names of the colors to swatch them so that I'll remember which is which when I go to use them. I purchased your water-coloring course when it first came out, and I've watched the first several videos, but then life got in the way. I think this is the incentive I needed to get back to it! Thanks!

Do you ever hand-letter with water pens?

Do you mean water brushes or what kind of water pen? If you mean water brushes, then yes, I love them!

@@HowtoHandLetter Yes, I mean water brushes (the ones where the water is stored in the handle). I was wondering how different your swatches might be on the same (and beautiful) palette you just demonstrated by changing tools such as waste brushes. Also, on an entirely different channel, I just learned how using rubbing alcohol as a solvent on watercolor pencils can produce striking, and shiny, results. Do you experiment with solvents in your letter writing swatches as well? Sorry, I am a newer subscriber and below a newbie at all things crafty, but I am trying to learn as much as I can and I am enjoying the process.

Different paper different results?

That could be part of it, too!

Do you think it is different due to the different textures of the papers?

The difference is probably due to her not pre-wetting the colours for the swatching. It makes a lot of difference esp for cheap chalky paint.
