An extra rosy reaction 🌹🌹🌹! The group is from England. His voice is very soulfully smooth. You may have heard the song before in the tv series: Everybody Hates Chris, or in the film: Love And Basketball. Holding Back The Years was released as the third single from Simply Red's 1985 album: Picture Book. It was written by Mick Hucknall and Neil Moss. It was produced by Stewart Levine. The song reached #1 on the Hot 100, #4 on the Cash Box 100, #4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #13 on the Jazz chart and #29 on the R&B chart. The music video was directed by Tony van den Ende. The song has been covered by many artists including: The Isley Brothers, Angie Stone, Etta James, Alyson Williams, Randy Stone and many more. Lead singer, Mick Hucknall, was born at Saint Mary's Hospital, Manchester, on June 8, 1960 and was an only child. His mother abandoned the family when he was three and the upheaval caused by this event inspired him to write the song: "Holding Back The Years", at 17 years of age which would become one of Simply Red's biggest and best-known hits. It would not be until the mid-1990s that he would reconnect with his mother, Maureen, who was by then living in Dallas, Texas. As of a 2008 interview, he had only seen her twice since she left. The song has been featured in films including 🎥: Cross My Heart (1987), Love And Basketball (2000 *Angie Stone sung the song for the movie), Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past (2009), Sisters (2015) and The Nest (2020). The song has been featured in television shows including 📺: Miami Vice, Six Feet Under, The Return Of The Six-Million-Dollar Man And The Bionic Woman, A Year In The Life, Casualty, Pose, Coronation Street, Club Med (tv movie) and Everybody Hates Chris. Simply Red Info 📰: Simply Red are a British Soul and Pop band formed in Manchester in 1985. The initial Simply Red line-up consisted of Mick Hucknall (vocals), David Fryman (guitar), Tony Bowers (bass), Fritz McIntyre (keyboards and vocals), Tim Kellett (brass and live backing vocals) and Chris Joyce (drums). The band is led by singer and songwriter Mick Hucknall, as lead singer and core member of Simply Red, he became the identifiable face of the band. His face and long curly red hair were featured prominently on album artwork and in videos. Since the release of their debut studio album: Picture Book (1985), they have had ten songs reach top 10 in the UK Singles Chart, including their signature song: "Holding Back The Years", and the 1972 Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes cover song: "If You Don't Know Me By Now", both of which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. They have had five number one albums in the UK, with their 1991 album: Stars, being one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. At the 1992 and 1993 Brit Awards, they received the award for Best British Group. They received three Grammy Award nominations: for Best New Artist in 1987, and "Holding Back The Years" and "If You Don't Know Me By Now" for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Mick Hucknall was described by Australian music magazine Rhythms as "one of the truly great blue-eyed soul singers", while Q magazine credited him with "the most prodigious voice this side of Motown". Simply Red have sold over 50 million albums worldwide. In 1997, Mick Hucknall won an Outstanding Achievement award from the Music of Black Origin Awards (MOBO Awards) despite being white. In 2008, Mick Hucknall released his first solo album: Tribute To Bobby, a tribute to the late Blues musician Bobby "Blue" Bland. In October 2011, Mick Hucknall was awarded with a BASCA Gold Badge award in recognition of his contribution to music. In October 2012, Mick Hucknall released his second solo album: American Soul, a collection of his favorite songs re-recorded with his vocals. Mick Hucknall is also one of the founders and financial backers of the reggae record label: Blood And Fire. He also manages the record label simplyred.com. When the band initially disbanded in 2010, Mick Hucknall was the only original member left in the group. The band re-formed in 2015 and still releases new music and performs live on stage in 2023.
