I thought I had a dream job when I was younger - being an opera singer. That was until I discovered that my passion for classical music was simply a product of my environment telling me that I HAVE to be a singer, when in reality I don't even like opera. Ever since I let go of that "dream job" my life has been chaotic, but so much more authentic.

I´ve been waiting for a "click", a "fix", a something to get me out of feeling down as I have for the last like, 2 to 3 weeks, and two videos of yours just did that, something clicked in my mind after hearing what you said in this video and in another one of yours, that just clicked and kind of "fixed me". I´ve been feeling really down lately due to the fact of me not knowing what to do with my life, not knowing what my dream job is and also about not doing something productive with my life, and I always thought that something or someone should come into my life and "fix" me so I could stop feeling like this and move on, but I wasn´t sure if that was the solution, for I always wondered if that was truly the solution or if this was something I had to figure out on my own and "fix" myself. But like I said, this video and the one where u talk about feeling behind in life, sort of "fixed" me I think, eithe that, or they opened my eyes to a new perspective around the subjects of the videos and now I can "fix" myself, so, thank you very much Sam Lui. It's strange how I've been finding a lot of videos like these but this video specifically and your other video about being stuck in your 20s really resonates with me. Growing up my "dream job" was always something different and would quickly change when I realized the reality of those "dream jobs." I understand hard work and pushing through tough times, but sometimes it's hard to process that thought as well. Now I really am looking for a job that I can deal with for a large sum of time (maybe 5 or 10 years?) and one that I find enjoyable. But what scares me is a constant dull like the one I faced when I was in high school which is when my outlook on life really started going down. Everything felt dull and repetitive and sure some things happened every now and then that was exciting but when that died down, life was... empty? I feel like that's the wrong word, but I can't find one that really fits at the moment. I definitely failed classes because of that feeling but at the time, I didn't want to address it. Your videos are very thought provoking and relatable in a way that doesn't feel superficial or fake. I'm glad to have found your channel!

I'm 19 and I've always wanted to work in the film industry. Whether that be acting or screenwriting or even directing, I wanted to do it all. I truly truly truly do not care about the fame, money or lavish lifestyle of it all. I just want to do because I love it so much. I would much rather do that than work at an office wasting my life away typing up reports. But reality is slowly starting to hit me and I really don't think I will be able to achieve my "dream job". Plus when I look at other young actors who successfully made it into the industry, I can see that the reason they got in was because of their parents already being in the industry or simply knowing someone close to them who is. Or they come from a rich family who can pay for acting lessons or agents to book them roles etc. I don't have any of that, I come from a very poor family. For someone like me who has zero connections to people in the industry or very little skill compared to other people, I just don't think I will be able to make it work and well, that really hurts. My whole life I've wanted to focus on this "dream job" and it hurts knowing I probably won't make it. I don't know what I would rather do..

Trying to pivot into a better career that pays more, but the struggle and fears of failure are immense due to having to support my aging immigrant parents with no retirement. as someone who is an aspiring fiction author and all I've ever wanted to be, a life other than being a fiction author is not a life worth living, every single thing I do has to contribute to me becoming a fiction author cause if not they are merely hindrances. I love writing stories, and I think far too many people are wilfully ignorant and their own bubbles are all they ever want to know, literary fiction is a powerful and evocative medium of art. It's a no brainer then I should just write fiction novels with the goal of increasing awareness regarding the conditions of the world, it's something I can get paid for and the quality of my work would just take time and persistence

I don't want a career. Part of it is because my mom thinks it's so important to graduate from college, even though it's not guaranteed that you'll get a job in what you you went to school for. The other part is there isn't anything that college offers for what I want to do that I'm actually already doing. I also just don't care to have a career and think it's so depressing on how much importance people put on their careers to the point that when they get old they look back and wish they spent more time with their family, friends, etc. Yeah, I don't want to be that person. In my experience, having a passion is an inconvenient thing. My passion is a lock that keeps me looking for something specific and makes me unhappy because trying to do something else or trying to compromise with it makes me feel bad. If I'm not working with my passion I feel like I'm wasting my time and energy. I wish I wasn't a passionately-creative person. There's no opportunities for creativity, even when you make cool things that lots of people like. 1. Yes to FIRE; I realized in college that our gen. simply could not rely on any perm. jobs for retirement dreams at 65+! & If you think about it, if we don't have a life when young & only live to work, what are we then supposed to live out when old? The whole thing makes no sense in 21st century & is a twisted hybrid of 19th century factory worker in youth & pretend rich foggie life when old, but without any of sophisticated investment strategies &/or financial management skills. That's why every paycheck or income has to be paired with financial education every step of the way! 2. Find your people is great advice, but very tough if it's not just for single activities, i.e. sports & hobbies, & particularly you're outside societal norms, like digital nomad, global jetsetter, professional migrant worker, etc. 3. Finally, for well rounded personalities, it's totally natural to have multiple interests!
