Bingo. Dave hit the nail on the head when he described the separation of work and personal. She needs a job description like everyone else if not a time clock also. This isn't a "Dr. Phil" type problem it is a serious business financial matter that builds on the art of being a "grownup" that can greatly affect a business.

I agree with you totally as I've been thru' divorce and seen it first hand. The whole family court system is a industry set-up to perpetuate itself and create ongoing revenue for itself and all its satelite industries. judges, barristers, lawyers for child, psychologists, supervised visitation facilities, court mandated marriage counseling, court mandated parenting thru' separation counseling ... the WHOLE system is designed to be adversarial and create conflict which ensure the two parties keep hammering away at each other. The only point that it stopped was when I stopped playing their stupid game. Started representing myself in court instead of hiring an overprice lawyer ($500.00 an hour !!!!) - I wouldn't recommend that unless you are 100% you can keep your composure under intense pressure. Also relinquished any animosity to my ex and started regarding her as someone who hadn't "got it" yet. Was very interesting how judges started treating me (for the better) and how the system wanted to truly get rid of you when you just start calling it out how it is and not playing their adversarial game.

I was in a 24-year marriage where I was the only one working on our marriage. He refused counseling, he refused to compromise. After 10 years of my going to a counselor, reading/studying, learning/changing and going to AA (no alcoholic issues just to learn to know how to detach from our co-dependent issues.) I was willing to reconcile as long as we could move forward as a couple on a joint path but he was unwilling. I had to file for divorce...I really had no other choice. He was willing to co-exist (so that his home was cleaned, his clothes washed and iron and dinner on the table every night) but I was not.

@classicrocklover5615

A farm is unlike any other business, especially if it involves livestock. You're married to the animals 24/7, can never take a day off or vacation. Most farmers do not make a profit at farming AT ALL, their family is supported by outside jobs that the wives (and sometimes husbands) also take. So why do a job (own a business) that is forever in debt? Because farming is a LIFESTYLE, a TRADITION. It doesn't matter if a farm in totally in the red, if they are still plowing/planting and have a decent pickup truck in the yard, they are considered a success by their neighbors and friends. I once witnessed a farmer who, instead of paying 10k to Uncle Sam in taxes, went out and "bought" a 250,000 combine, so he could force his business into debt on paper. Farming is more mindset than hardcore business, and perhaps that's where the conflict lies between the husband and wife

I would think that the "changing hats" thing Dave talks about is very, very difficult in practice. I would find it very hard to separate my husband-wife relationship from my employee-employer relationship. My guess is that Dave finds it easier to do that. He can probably compartmentalize those types of things easier. In general men are good at compartmentalizing things. And in general women find that more difficult.

I really don’t think he pays his kids more then anyone else. He could if he wanted to. But I think if they have ideas they go to him and say, “Hey dad I want to write a book on finances and children!” And he says, “Great lets do it!” And he with the business pays for it. As a business expense. His children will inherit his business. Why would he need to pay them more then anyone else if they live like he teaches so they can inherit the wealth they are all creating? That’s a clause in his will. If you don’t follow God and want to be a good steward of the amassed family wealth then they inherit nothing.

I own a candy store. Called Christa’s Candies. It’s my baby. My husband doesn’t make decisions about the business. He can give me suggestions as a spouse. And at most he is a free occasional employee when I’m unwell. But families that work together need to have thick skins. She sounds hormonal and emotionally volatile. I think if he even just breathed the wrong way she’d lose it on him. That would be bad for business. My husband hears what I have to say and knows that if I’m annoyed that he didn’t clean the windows or sweep the floor at the end of the day, that’s okay. I love him. He’s awesome and we really love each other. Our love cups are full! And overflowing. She’s not feeling enough love and whether it’s the husbands lack of ability to love or her inability to receive the love he’s giving... that’s also a huge issue for them.
