I’ve had kids since I was 19, they are 13 and 16 now. You try not to have a double standard as much as humanly possible but there’s sometimes where the fact that you’re an adult and they’re child is going to create a double standard. It’s not something that you can’t completely avoid for 18 years minimum. Most parents I would like to believe are trying their best, but nothing in life prepares you for being a parent. Also, it’s always evolving and changing as your children age. Being a parent is complicated like all interpersonal relationships.

@@vibe_oli I still think the greatest lesson my parents ever taught me was to listen. The first step to controlling impulses. If I asked "Why", and I didn't need something I'd be told "Because I said so." There were no further questions, I didn't need to know why nor did I need to say anything else about the situation. I trusted my parents when they said such a thing because they always told me "Why" in cases where it doesn't truly matter. I think straying so far away from the dynamic of Parent and Child is where we've went wrong in this Country. Discipline, respect, manners and principles are not always instilled through kindness. Sometimes, if your a little varmit like I was, you need a good talking to or ass whooping if earned. I earned every single one I received, thankfully I was a quick learner so it didn't take much. Most kiddo's are if you have the courage to teach them young and be strict when you need to. To each their own, but I'd rather raise a strong young individual who can handle reality, rather than pamper my child and treat them as a friend their whole life. It's gotta be one of the most difficult things to balance in life itself. I'm so grateful for my parents giving it the best shot they could, and I think they did great. Seeing, and hearing the amount of disrespect tolerated by parents nowadays is honestly disgusting. Grow up and teach your kid some manners.

😂😂 me, being me, would have told my son "mind your business". I always taught my son to learn the rules so then you can learn how best to get away with breaking them. And as someone who can hardly ever afford to pay her tickets, I've been licensed since 16, am 41, and have been actually licensed maybe 10-15yrs at best ...as long as you keep up on your annual registration, drive safe, you're fine. Even if you get pulled over they probably won't take your car (hasn't happened to me & I've been pulled over multiple times, just explain you couldn't afford to pay your ticket or the DMV fee yet & we're coming home from work). Easy peasy. The more you know. 🌈

@@JBunny7482it ain't that easy for everybody, so I wouldn't say that's *universal* advice. I was coming home from work once, had already paid off the ticket online but not the fee (was going to do it on my next day off), and they were still gonna make me stay the night in jail. Only reason I didn't go to jail was because they let me call someone to pick up my car to avoid a tow, and out of the friends I hit up, the one friend that answered also happened to be the friend whose SO is a cop. Instead of coming over she just called him, he came over, they voided everything and let me go home. But if I didn't get super fucking lucky by meeting that friend like 2 months prior, they were 100% going to take me to jail over it. So it's also good to know when you're *not* on the list of people who can get away with stuff other people can

A lot of love, hugs, understanding and communication. Susan left that kid on digital babysitting mode and this is what happens. I've got a soon to be 25yr old and a 21yr old. Both dental lab techs with their dad. We always say I love you when leaving any room or getting off the phone. In public or private. We broke the cycle of neglect and abuse our parents bestowed on my husband and I. If They ever come at me like that it's on. I established that early. I knew these boys were going to tower over me one day. Even though they do, they love and respect me. You get back what you give. If your kids have a shit attitude maybe do some inward reflection. Because kids are sponges, they will absorb you. The good, the bad and the ugly.

Yes!! Literally! My kids are 20 & 21. Both respectful and kind. My 21 year old is technically my “step” daughter, so believe me, we butted heads HARD when she was a teenager cause she was scared I was “stealing” her dad. But she’s a gem now and she apologizes for being such a difficult teen with me because she says she loves me so much and wishes she would have been nicer to me. All I did was love her through it, but I also never let her walk all over me either baby! We had rules, boundaries, consequences… My own children tell me all the time that kids their own age are terrible people and kids half their age are just wild!

My parents are divorced. I said things like "Well, Debbie..." (as a funny joke, not backtalking) with my mom, because she was fairly chill. My dad, on the other hand, was pretty strict, but fair. I have never said his name aloud except when talking to people about him, who would've understood who he was better if I said Bob rather than Dad.

Now, I remember on many occasions, putting down my phone to talk, have dinner with, be around my parents and them not paying attention because they are on their phones. Facts the last part you said is key Because most parents think their kids are underneath them and won’t admit their faults due to that. Which causes more issues because imagine never being heard out by your parents and they never admit they are wrong and apologize when being messed up and you just have to deal with it until adult hood and then it affects you for the rest of your natural life.

For example, if you notice, alcoholics or one under the influence is usually sharp in their deep analysis of life convos or just of even their surroundings at the moment because of heightened senses. I mean I would say you probably don’t drink much or haven’t at all, but no judgement because I don’t either. I grew up in a time without cellphones and parented my daughter until she was 14 without them as well. When she got her first phone, I set clear boundaries. However, she didn’t agree with them and began purchasing burner phones behind my back. What I discovered on those phones was deeply disturbing. Despite my efforts to explain right from wrong and guide her, she refused to listen. I sought help through private counseling and school guidance counseling, but neither made a difference. I felt completely lost, not knowing what else to do. Each time I took away a burner phone, she would just buy another one with her own money from her job. Eventually, I lost her forever, and it broke my heart. 💔 😢

As a teacher, this is how I would've handled the situation. "No phones at the table while we eat, okay?" "Why?" "Because I want us to pay attention to each other. Everyone, myself included, will put their phones in the center of the table face down." "What about the digital menus?" "We'll check the menu first then put the phones down after we order."
