I test drove this one on my channel few months ago and to me it did the craziest understeer every time I gave it the beans in the corners. It felt super unsafe to continue driving it "sporty" which kind of defies the purpose of having a car with 400+ hp and making the chassis so undriveable. I believe it's problem was the torque distribution between rear and front motors (obviously not programmed correctly) but it felt super bad in my view if you enjoy corners and do not use your car only for shopping and taking your kids to school... What's even funnier is - if you turn off the "performance" drive mode (which takes 10 taps on the screen) it actually drives much better in the corners.

I used to have a Volvo V50 for some years. I bought it with 72000k on the counter. That particular Volvo was a 1600D (with PSA motor). I only had it for one week when it shut down the engine when I was accelerating from 0-70. I was really scared because this also happened out of nowhere and cars behind you don't expect you to suddenly slow down that fast (I was going a little bit uphill). After shutting off the car and restarting it, the problem was gone (for a while). It happened a second time a few days later. I took it to a workshop and the problem appeared to be caused by the diesel being too dirty and the liquid to clean it was not replaced at 60000k. It seems a bit Volvo-like to shut down the engine power just like that. It is really dangerous. The engine management system should NEVER shut down the power of the engine just like that, no matter what! That Volvo V50 was the car that caused me the most trouble of any car I ever had. When it was not having problems (also the turbo was very bad), it drove really well. I spent more than €4500 on repairs before finally selling it because I was sick of that car.

It’s kinda crazy how fast Volvo pushed out the ex30 It’s obvious to see it needs more work. They did the exact opposite of what polestar is doing with the polestar 3. They are making sure the PS3 is as close to perfect as possible before releasing them to the buyers. I am one, so I know. My ps3 had been sitting at a port in Vancouver Canada for around 3 weeks to a month. It’s awaiting the final big software update.

And believe me, it needs it! The demo cars here in the UK haven't had the update and when we put the windows down they refused to go back up, even after a reset. Definitely software related so likely it'll be fixed already but I'm glad they're holding off releasing that version to the public.

Excellent review. Any indications if Volvo, or Polestar planning to manufacture at some point in North America in future? There is really a need for smaller well rounded electric vehicle options that are affordably priced. Too many larger SUV options, and few traditional midsize, smaller in terms of current automotive sizing. Volvo if you're reading this, the Volvo EX30, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Rivian R3, etc. are all going to be very popular high volume EVs in markets they are available. Current market does not have many solid smaller vehicle options. There is significant demand from consumers wanting.

When you had that fault, you were saying that it removed all power, but you continued driving at 40km/h. Sure you didn't have any extra throttle if it was capped at 40kmh. You didn't try to slow down below 40 and then accelerate back up to 40. So their statement of "reduced speed" could be very well true. It was probably true, in fact, because if you were on regen braking you would have slowed down, and if you had no regen braking then you'd start accelerating downhill.

Don't be too optimistic about the OTA's. They hardly add anything new once the car is ready and the new features are underwhelming to say the least. Many people also have issues after every OTA. The reason why you're still seeing so many new features in the EX30 is because it wasn't ready for the market yet, just rushed. You're basically beta-testing the car and software. Been driving the EX40 (still named XC40 when I got it) for over a year and there's so much potential for the software but Volvo doesn't do anything with it. No notifications for open windows/doors/roof/alarm and the status is also still not visible in the Android app, while it has been on iOS for months. They finally added KZitem but it's not even an app, just KZitem opened in a stripped browser. Also still no Android Auto support (for WhatsApp messages and other apps), no split screen, etc... Only Google Maps is getting frequent updates that actually add to the experience, but the rest of AAOS is lacking imo. The 'big' update to AAOS 12 from a couple of months ago brought nothing new.

My thoughts exactly. I think Volvo wins on build quality, but EV3 wins on rear seat comfort and efficiency.

"Hysteresis" Nice, nice😁Yeah if that car gets built in Belgium or anywhere else, it will be a big hit in the US, cute little car and actually pretty fast. Thanks for such consistently good content, it’s always high-quality and not all rehearsed and artificial, it’s like I’m sitting right next to you in the passenger seat and you’re just talking to me. That’s not super common in front of a camera, you have something special no joke

This is not a good review of the car. Kyle emphasizes the things he likes about the car and minimizes the obvious deal breaking flaws. It’s not a particularly safe car. Most alarming is the screen. It’s too small. The big screen in cars like a Tesla are usable while this one is unsafe to use while driving. Way too inconvenient for vital info like a speedometer. I really wanted to like this car but after getting in it and fiddling with the controls I realized it’s badly designed. It lacks many features you expect on a premium car like a Volvo. The rear seats are a pain in the butt to get down if you want to increase the trunk space. I’m surprised there are so many reviews hyping the car. It’s very cute and cool but not easy to live with.

Maybe it will be more fully baked when we get it lol, an actual Polestar version isn't on their list but hopefully we get a Polestar tuned EX30 at least!

Wow, 55k and no rear armrest or cup holders! That’s crazy 😮. Seems to need lots and lots of refinements. I’m really not a fan of the speckled look, and the center screen seems way too small.

I still don't get it, what's up with these legacy car makers and software, for the love of God, just invest in a team of good software engineers..Of course they said nothing, no details no info at all. Also i really doubt they never seen this before. Volvo lost their reputation completely since the Geely acquisition..

If possible get the dual motor variant, due to the excessive force on the tires. In the long term you’ll get back the money you spent on the dual motor

In Europe we now also have tariffs on Chinese cars. I wonder if they will actually reduce the price once it’s being built in Belgium?

I don't think regen when ABS in use is safe... the regen power is still considerable, and if it is rear-wheel drive, you can still partially lock the wheel up with full regen breaking only.

It so interesting following an american mind when talking about citys and their areas. When Kyle says "entering Innsbruck Area" I guarantee that the residents of the town "Schwaz" (where you have been actually at that time) and those from Innsbruck would not agree. Schwaz is a soley independet town 30km before Innsbruck, and many independent villages are following before you reach Innsbruck. But if course in US-dimensions Innsbruck-Area starts right behind the border to Germany. But anyway, good Video and thanks for the scenic drive through Kufstein, the Inn Valley, Schwaz, the Achensee Region and more which are all located in Tirol (well technically a part of Austria, but we are not prowd of that fact ;-).

Ww can definitely complain about the rear seats being small since the e-C3 , Inster and some chinese brands have plenty of room there

I was very early in ordering EX30, might have been one of the first in Colorado. Volvo invited me to see the car in April, sit in it etc, but not drive. Very good quality, finish, design, loved it, but when I sat in the back seat, there is no way we could haul adults or teens in the back. So I cancelled and they returned my deposit. Looks like better use for a single commuter car.

Love the design and Google interface and would love to have these in the USA. Definitely needs some refinement though.
