Saguto is the best instructor there is. Period. So much of the other online stuff completely screwed up my game with positions of this that and the other thing that made things so overwhelming and mechanical I heard a marching band in my head standing over the ball. Then I started to see Toms stuff. Thank the good lord above as I was about to quit. Tom if you're reading this I've seen nowhere that speaks of the possibility of in person lessons or zoom/facetime in person coaching or chats. Is this something you simply don't do? And if so could you steer those of us interested in the right direction? Thanks so much for all!

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Ian, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction! The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body: the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless golf swings have sadly been trashed as a result. This is not saying that golf is "easy" as it most certainly is anything but. However, the complexities of the swing - both real and perceived - can indeed be greatly simplified as I regularly seek to demonstrate. I had phased out private lessons (both in-person and virtual) awhile back so I could dedicate more time to my online school. I've not yet set a specific date for when I will resume them (it should be fairly soon), but when I do the virtual lessons will be reserved exclusively for my online school members. In-person lessons at my South Carolina location will be open to members and non-members. If you are in my online school please send me a message through the "chat" feature and I will add you to my list to be notified when slots open up. Also, I am presently offering a swing video analysis service to my school members as a means to support their progress in the school. If you are not in the school yet, then that would be a great starting point as the school is designed to get golfers on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, structured, sequential platform. That is where you will find very detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Thank you again for your message - I am very glad to know that you pulled yourself off the ledge! 😎 Now, let's get you on the fast track towards the level of consistently crispy, body-friendly ball striking bliss that will truly maximize your enjoyment of this greatest of games! Tom

Thanks a million for the detailed response. "Crispy" is a word I now use, and the "Don't play the solo from Freebird at the beginning" crack you made had me spitting out my morning coffee laughing. It was so perfect. 😂😂🎸 I've been a rock radio DJ in NYC for well over 34 years and counting so am well familiar with song. And don't get me started on the live version. 😎 Hope to chat in person someday!

Tom is so right about quiet hands. Even Ben Hogan wrote a whole chapter about how the hands can get you in trouble. The pincher fingers can dominate your swing. Like Tom says where the face of the club points is where the ball goes. What controls the club face ? ( The hands) if you want to play good golf listen to Tom. Keep up the great work. From a 70s shooter that has tons of fun because of Tom saguto. Ps join his school you wont regret it.

Love your vids, I've been a stack and tilt guy for years. I have one swing thought , pull the club back with my right lat muscle (I'm right handed) it brings it inside and connects it to my body and naturally bends my left knee while dropping the left shoulder under my chin. From there it's all legs, bend the right knee and straighten the right you fall into the ball like skipping a stone for that crispy contact!

I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you to such an extent, Stephanie, and yes - that is a great way to think about it! 👍👍 Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. If we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for your message and keep up the fantastic work!! Just watched another vid about why it's important to use the hands in the golf swing for the release and how using big muscles is a fallacy. Lots of sound reasons, just like this clip has. Personally, I've no idea any more....

I certainly get what you are saying. I have tried several channel’s approaches. I have had the most consistency with this approach. I also had a great instructor in the 90s, who has since moved on, so I can’t go back to him. I can’t remember exactly his approach, but Tom’s method seems to be bringing back those old thoughts and is close to my first instructors approach.

The old way is to turn the hands through the swing and it makes you very reliant on timing but what Pat is saying here is kinda similar to Harmons approach which was to keep the club face square to your target as long as possible through the entire swing.

For me as bodybuilder turned golfer (just about a year ago), what’s made the biggest difference on my game is in fact taking the biggest muscles out of the equation and focusing on good hand / wrist release. Has worked wonders for me so far

I definitely agree 100% on your advice about the "no hand" swing mate.. I tried it at the range and i am really surprised at the great result i got.. I felt like my swing becomes natural and my entire body can work as a unit with the club and hitting em ball much more consistently.. Back then i was thinking too much about the "hand controls the clubface" stuff and i didn't realized that i was manipulating my hands way to much just trying to get the clubface to square at impact.. Instead of getting good hit at the ball i ended up with lots of problem because when i subconsciously manipulating my hands, my body react too much trying to correct my swing path and straining my body especially my wrist.. The "no hand" swing makes it much more simple and also makes perfect sense like you said so thanks a lot mate.. Another great lesson i learned from you again and keep up the good work mate 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I was doing really well when I followed your instructions months ago, and then something in my swing changed that had me hitting the ball everywhere but down the middle of the fairway. Golf is indeed a very difficult sport. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination - and we can - then we will be able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing, and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives! I really don't get to play enough on a regular basis to bother with maintaining a handicap, plus it wouldn't do me much good as a pro since I'm not eligible for any amateur tournaments at my club. Great! I'm glad this video helped you to figure out the culprit! It may take some time to break that old habit, but ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. The free mini course that I referenced in my other reply to you in a different thread is an excellent starting point to help you with this. Tom

yes, cup hands is for cadbury's and not crispy kfc. but, deep inside golf's most sacred temple, which all golfers are strictly foridden from entering, there they hides the game's biggest secret, so secret that it is too sacred to tell; and, any golfer who does tell will have the curse of the hydra upon them. but, there deep inside the sacred temple it is scriptured: "as ye waggle so shall ye swing". but, don't let that fool you. it is not the player who waggles club, it is the club that waggles the player; or, their hands, to be more exact. it is only natural to want to control the club, when we take our grip. but, it is the club that should control us. but, for this to happen we must first move onto a higher realm; and, grip the club lightly- when we place our hands on the club- then raise our position. the weight of the club will then press the handle of the club up against the heel pad of the left hand; and, this will press the hand forwards. and, that is the waggle; or, the first half of it, at least. and, that takes care of the hands in the backswing.

I appreciate that, Mike, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content for this fantastic swing system and my teaching style are resonating with you!! Now, here's the thing. Hinging is absolutely happening in the swing, but it's not a consciously manufactured action. You see, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. Love the channel, but feel is not real. Look at 2:07, you rotated your arms/hands clockwise. If you didn't the toe of the club would be pointing straight up. It's laying flat and your right hand is on top of your left. Also you start with a slightly cupped left wrist and and at backswing it's straight.

@SagutoGolf I appreciate the long response, but for me personally this wasn't natural and on autopilot. I had to actively implement arm rotation to get the club in the same position as you do. My autopilot position, what feels to me like dead hands, gets the left wrist in a cupped position in the backswing. You do rotate your arms and to you this may feel naturally, but for me it didn't. I had to be told to rotate my arm.

It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. With regard to this erroneous notion that we need to affect some type of active hand-rolling “release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. As for watching different videos from different sources, please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. Tom, what do you consider to be the main reason for toe strikes?
@SagutoGolf
6 ай бұрын
Hi Augie, There are various causes of toe hits, with the most common being related to setup (for example, the arms are not hanging down naturally and are in fact slightly reaching away from the body at address) or a downswing path that is coming from the outside and across the ball. Having said that, it's really not possible for me to diagnose the cause of your toe hits without actually seeing your swing. I wouldn't be so concerned about distance at this very early juncture. Typically, once this swing is running properly and can be committed to "muscle memory" golfers experience significant increases in length. You have only just given this a try today and have already seen an improvement in shot shape while likely building your new "feels" and thinking mechanical thoughts. When you develop sufficient confidence in the motion that you are comfortable with it, you'll be able to just trust it and let it fly. If you’re a senior you will have to learn to use your wrists . It makes up for not being able to turn as fast as you used to.
@SagutoGolf
7 ай бұрын
Well, to be clear the wrists are certainly being used, they're simply not actively forced. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. Now, as for older golfers, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought. Tom

The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body, Daniel: the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless golf swings have sadly been trashed as a result. 😎 I fully understand the "paralysis" that comes from having too many mechanical thoughts. If true simplicity is what you seek, then the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is the place. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Enzo! Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Besides the shoulders, much of the speed comes from the hip rotation, but especially from the folding of the trail arm. Release the trail arm just before impact to get the "whip"

Other video you posted stated keep right elbow tucked. How come it looks like your not tucking it here?
@SagutoGolf
7 ай бұрын
It is most assuredly tucking when it needs to be, Sean. It is certainly acceptable to have a few inches of space between the trail elbow and the torso at the top, just like I have in my swing. The key is that the arm has not lost its "tucked" orientation and the elbow is definitely not flying away, meaning that it is in perfect position to reconnect in the downswing. "Gluing" it in there is a "feel" that is necessary for most amateurs to achieve this desired action. In more general terms, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my KZitem content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Well, to be clear, Chris, golf is anything but "easy"! But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination - and we can - then we will be able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing - preferably through a step by step, position by position learning platform such as the SagutoGolf online school - and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives! @SagutoGolf
7 ай бұрын
I'm glad to know that my content is resonating with you, Steve! With regard to ball position, we first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. However With that short compact shoulder swing my ball went father than ever because i was hitting more squarely. but now that Im healed my first tendency is to want to use my hands go back to a long swing and i mess up so I am now going to say NO to my hands and go back to my post operation swing when i was a better golfer lol thx mate

LOL! Say YES to the NO, Alex!!! 😎 I'm glad to know that this lesson clicked with you. The key in this regard is to get to - but not go beyond - our body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set. This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur: 1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift 2) the wrists will break down 3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side 4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball 5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight. 6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact 7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury We don't need to force ourselves to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting our body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If we execute this swing properly we will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that enables us to then harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". Have fun out there bringing back that post-op swing! Make sure you fire that right hip through the ball as well.
@SagutoGolf
6 ай бұрын
It depends on the individual, Gordon. When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while the head - and thus the swing center - remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately that "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help them to overcome this, correctly engage their hips, and fix their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition. I thought the hinging of the wrist proves power and control contact with the ball?
@SagutoGolf
7 ай бұрын
I didn't say that the wrists don't hinge, Reginald. Of course they do! I'm just not forcing it to happen. It is a bit like cheating, don't tell me you're not even doing some radial deviation at the top (aka hinging)... :-) Still, quiet hands (or dead wrists as I call them myself) did help me as well with face control, and compression. Your message makes so much sense. Stopping to take the club inside took me longer, I really needed to force the good old one piece takeaway on myself to steepen my swing... It still feels like I am pointing the club straight up like a lightning rod, but when I recorded myself last weekend I could measure my lead arm is still "only" at a 47 degree angle at P4. And that's coming down from a shallow 30 degree angle only 2 months ago (you can guess how 'wristy' one has to be on the downswing to try squaring things up, coupled with early extension as I clung to an in-to-out swing path)

Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine. This can feel rigid and overly structured initially, but that will dissipate, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Because the club is heavy and lags behind your wrists the you accelerate through
@SagutoGolf

Lag is certainly the reason for this when the lead wrist is moderately cupped at address (i.e.: a more neutral grip such as the one I have). The "stronger" the grip, the more the cupped condition of the wrist. And the more cupped it is, the more necessary it is to make compensatory moves to square the face while also having a solid impact condition. For example, have a look at this video and analysis of Zach Johnson, one of the "strongest" grippers out there: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tKWYx2SpgHl-f20si=WRy_3Ah3VICd0KN_ Tom

Yes indeed, Ron, and yet so many people are so quick to forget that! With regard to this grossly erroneous notion that we need to affect some type of active hand-rolling “release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. Instead, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot.
