I have messed around with tactile transducers for a while for sim racing and I also own a Woojer, but in the end, I concluded that the novelty experience of it isn't very useful for actual immersion or gaming. Simply using vibrations isn't enough to immerse me. After a while too, your body stops recognizing the vibrations so it just becomes more of a hassle to me. Maybe I'm unique in this, but wearable haptic feedback has been a miss for me.
@MrJagermeister
5 жыл бұрын
I backed the Woojer Ryg on Kickstarter - it has 8 feedback locations (each of them 3x more powerful than the one on the Strap). And it works in 7.1, so you can feel an explosion off to the left differently than a punch to the gut or a knife in the upper right shoulder. It’s expensive as fuck, $524. But I’m excited about it. In VR, it’ll be more 4L/4R on the PSVR due to the 3D sound, but for movies and shows in 5.1 and even better in 7.1, I’m excited to feel that impact. I’ll probably wear the Strap at the same time. The problem with the Strap is that you’re right, it just rumbles whenever there’s bass, including when people talk. Splitting this up into 8 different locations that fire individually really changes that up. Maybe it’ll be a huge waste of money, maybe it’ll make my liver explode while playing “DOOM”, I dunno. Looking forward to finding out. (Oh - and it doesn’t require anything to be programmed for it, no app, no PC - it just bases it off the individual channels of the surround mix, so it can work on everything from KZitem to 4K/HDR blurays with Dolby Atmos cranking)
@Super-id7bq
5 жыл бұрын
I think it really all depends on how well it's done. There are tons of games that use haptics via the controllers in VR but only a few that are notable to me. For example using the bow and arrow in The Lab is an amazingly immersive experience. You really do feel like you can feel the tension of the bow and the arrow moving against it. I actually think that when you stop noticing it, that's when it's working correctly. Haptics shouldn't take you out of the experience, it should just be another layer of immersion which when done correctly should reinforce immersion but it should never be distracting.

Some people buy $2000 monitors just to have 5% better visuals than a $400 monitor, which only has slightly better visuals than a $160 monitor. Some markets are niche. Has always been that way. For the right games though, this kind of thing does at least have a reasonable application in providing additional information to a player. I could imagine the shooter community quite liking them, even if only a small portion opt for the expense.

Looking at where to buy them, these seem to be developers kits, i imagine VRO got one from them to get the word out. Consumer level production will probably cut that around 30-50%. So anywhere from about $350-500. Versus the Tesla Suit which seems to be targeting somewhere around the same at "console level prices." Granted the Tesla Suit can do a whole lot more and has almost double the sensors, I don't think we'll be getting Haptic feedback suits for

Regardless, I loved the video, I can't say this about many, but you described the product clearly without error and told your opinion on it, compared to other products, as well as to include feedback instead of just criticism, great video, I can proudly say I subscribed!

the new Valve Index headset has an expansion port in the front of the headset so hopefully the face attachment can be mounted on that so hopefully it wont affect the comfort of FOV. This technology however would be great with leg attachments but more on the game front, Imagine a sword fighting game where your enemy slashes you from top right to lower left.. and you feel the slicing of the blade... Or youre character is a robot thats had its arm or leg chopped off and while its off, you feel a constant throb emulating pain... or a zombie biting at you, driving a rappy and taking a jump where in air, you feel nothing, only for your wntire being to jolt as you land... Add that to a forcefeedback wheel and it changes EVERYTHING... The next 5 yrs look to be rather interesting for gamers with all these new technologies... Im glad i wasnt an early adopter but now Im wanting to build a "Holodeck" just for this kinda activity... hahahaha The fact its wireless is the winner here... I initially thought it was wired, but i just saw its all pretty much running through BT...

K if a suit skin would have the vibrating sensors closer together and smaller, they need to be as small as a ball pen but powerful, and they need to press in with very soft rubber that is durable, the orange puddy that is used for bullet proof armor should do the trick cause it stays soft for slow movement but hardends for fast, so it would have to be shaped very well so it didn't irritate the players skin
