My thoughts on this album is no way an attack on Taylor, or her artistry. I liked some, and disliked some of this record. This is simply my opinion, I tried to keep it as respectful as possible during my TS journey, I would hope you will do the same. Just here for the music man. Enjoy. You’re not disrespecting… you’re also not wrong. This is one of the reasons I am excited for Taylor’s Version of this album. She was still contracted with Big Machine during this time and they wanted her to always be “proper, pretty and sweet”. This is the last album she made with them.

Sure! I think they definitely held her back, in many aspects of her performance. This is also the first album where she used “fowl” language, though the usage was light as opposed to her newer albums. I think she touches upon it in later works, like “But Daddy, I love Him”, where she speaks to the way other people perceive her behaviors, or how they feel they have a say in her life and what she chooses for herself, at all. As a fan, I enjoy her evolution as a person and how it impacts her art and writing. She’s obviously very self aware, which might not always be a great thing, because we as listeners wouldn’t want that to hold her back, but the awareness also impacts the art. And that, more often, in her case, increases her abilities. I think that’s part of what projects her forward. The vault tracks on Reputation will be some of her best writing, as she was so alone in that moment (partly by choice). All she had were her thoughts and her feeling were intense, I imagine.

I feel like LWYMMD, in majority, is a "you had to be there" song. I personally like the song on its own, but the lore behind it, the music video being the first thing Taylor had put out in years, and the fact that it was Taylor fighting back in a way we hadn't see before made the song super iconic. I also think that radio overplayed the song and that helped nothing.
@EmilyExcitedlyAnalyzes
4 ай бұрын
When I first heard it, it's tainted by a personal trauma in my life where my friend committed the most violent act against someone, murder, and blamed them for causing them to do this to them and it's just. This song is forever tied to that moment in my life even though I've the years I've started to soften on finding it a little more catchy and fun. It's still not ever gonna be a song I think really is a great sentiment to be spreading 😅 -- I like angry Taylor and fighting back Taylor but this particular song's lyrics are ones I kinda just never will fully be behind. It's SO interesting to see different people's reactions to each song though for sure!!

I don't have the feeling that you dislike the album because you liked more songs than I thought. Reputation isn't her best work but this era has brought a lot for Taylor (and her fans) because of the Kanye and Kim situation, she reclamed her name and reputation. Her comeback was truly amazing. I love that you said you felt so sexy during Look What You Made Me Do, because the song actually interpolates the 90's song I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred! She gave them songwriting credits on LWYMMD too. 😊

Hey Lauryn! I loved your reaction. Please don't feel like you have to like whatever other Swifties like - everyone has their own opinion, songs they love and dislike, sounds they prefer more than others, lyrics that feel closer to home. For me Reputation is a hit and miss album, but I still really like it. I'm a Folklore girlie so...

Just watching your reaction has literally brightened my day. You are so REAL and I love it. Watching you dance & not give a shit was the best thing ever. One of the best reactions I've seen. Pouring a good stiff drink before you start Reputation is the wisest move. Keep being you.

I love your take on this album! I’m an older fan, and folklore, midnights, and TTPD (took over for lover) are my favorites. I still like Reputation but the way you summed up the songs matched my taste so well. Can’t wait to see your other reactions to other swift albums or other artists all together!

Rep is a grower for a lot of people, but it’s been my favorite since first listen lol. You may like the tour! But also you had valid criticisms and it’s totally fine to not fully connect with something, even if other people love it! Thanks for giving it an honest try!

I love your reactions so much!! Every Taylor song and album has their ride or dies so don’t ever worry about being honest if you dislike something. The fun part is finding your favorites and the rest might grow on you later. Even watching the Eras Tour gave me new perspective on songs I’d heard for years. Can’t wait for your Red reaction! 🫶🏽❤

Also, I think you’re right about Taylor picking better hip hop producers for Rep. I love TTPD but I think switching up producers would’ve helped there too.

This is my favorite Taylor album, but I love the way you so thoughtfully broke it down!!! I would love to see Taylor working with different producers in the future (especially hip-hop producers). I think it helps to remember that Evermore (my second favorite album) came out three years later, and she went through Lover and Folklore first. But there are some elements I see in both, like closure on Evermore. BUT your expertise and experience here (and the way you so respectfully and clearly express your thoughts) are INCREDIBLY valuable. 💖

we left the swiftie fandom in 2016/2017 during the whole reputation era but we came back during 2022 but reputation was a shocker for us. we loved it immediately but it was certain song we could relate to because of the situation of our friendships and relationship at the time. it felt like it explained everything for us in an intimate moment, we start sobbing sometimes because of these songs like folkmore (folklore + evermore). She’s just like me 😭😭😭😭 also your reaction is very sweet and it’s okay to not like songs, we don’t like certain songs.

great video :) rep is absolutely one of my favorite of her albums. Your honesty and transparency is so refreshing: It gave me a new lens/perspective to view this album from in terms of the production. Absolutely agree on the idea of having more experienced producers in the realm of hip-hop, and I hope one day we're able to hear that sound with her!

I LIVE for the fact that scrolling through comments, everyone is being so respectful-- and that is 100% because you were so respectful in your critique! To be fair, reputation SLAPS live. As a longtime Swiftie (think, calling the radio station to hear Tim McGraw by this girl named Taylor Swift kind of Swiftie) reputation took a bit for me to fully appreciate and understand as I'd drifted a bit during 1989...but live??? Oooooooooh, you will find an appreciation for the "skips" and the bops hit so fucking hard (the high note in don't blame me? goes higher live)..I'll join patreon in a heartbeat to see you see rep in all her glory
